Quote:One challenge or scheduling agreement that was circulated in infancy stages was with the Big East......This is all still a reach and the Big Ten isn't going to look at any of this until after a year of watching the new Big East.

There are a number of logical Big East-Big TEn matchups, but most are already being played, except of course for Georgetown-Maryland. But none for St Johns, PRovidence.

Seton Hall has dibs.

I'd like to keep the annual match up's annual and do a challenge where the teams rotate.

Also if they do eventually pass on the idea lets call the Pac-12 and set one up.
Interesting that this was even considered, especially when they already have a challenge with the best basketball conference (ACC).

Perhaps they see a new storm brewing.

Or mutual Australian friends...
Pac-12 makes sense because of shared FOX affiliation.
Big Ten would be great but honestly, they would probably beat us every year. The ACC and Big Ten are the best conferences and probably will be from now on. We match up well with the PAC-12 and some western exposure can't hurt, they should be the challenge.

Maybe. This would be a coup for Fox though. Since they own half of the Big Ten Network, I could see the Big East home games being on Fox Sports 1 and the Big Ten home games being on the Big Ten network. ESPN would not like this at all.

It's always good to be optimistic but in this case jet is being a realist. BE better drop a few schools and pick up a few bball powerhouses if it wants to be better than these two. That actuall goes for all conferences

The B1G most likely signs with FS once their contract is up in 3 years.

I never thought about this, forgot about the Big ten network, either way Fox comes out the winner.

Check out the Big East OOC thread to see some great numbers.

My semi-educated belief is that the Big Ten will take a similar approach as the Big 12 and Pac-12, where their new package will be split between ESPN and Fox. I don't see the Big Ten moving off of ESPN completely at all. The BTN's partial ownership by Fox has seemed to mask the fact that ABC/ESPN is very dependent upon the Big Ten for Saturday football and the B1G supplies most of their top-rated games (as the top SEC game always goes to CBS every week), so ESPN is very likely to pay up.

But on the flip side Fox wants those games for it's own network and will also pay up. Remember that Delany walked out of the ESPN offices very upset with them and went to Fox to start the BTN. Delany clearly has a better relationship with the Fox folks.

I agree that the personal relationship is better, but the same former head of ESPN that ticked off Delany also didn't get along with any of the executives at the NFL and NBA. That's part of the reason why Sunday Night Football ended up on NBC (as opposed to the old format of SNF on ESPN and MNF on ABC) - ESPN lowballed the NFL, and then the NFL got a bid for SNF from NBC in turn, and then ESPN couldn't get their calls returned when they attempted to up their bid. It's not anywhere near as contentious now with the changes in leadership in the past few years - current ESPN president John Skipper is generally well liked. Remember that the Big Ten just signed off on ESPN buying up the Rose Bowl even though the B1G and Pac-12 could have forced it to go to the open market. At the same time, it's ultimately business (as evidenced that the NFL and NBA still cash ESPN checks despite the historical acrimony). I'm very certain that the Big Ten wants to maintain a substantial presence on ESPN even though we may see some games shift to Fox.

That's my point. They would have to pick up schools with football like uconn. Adding X, butler, VCU, UD, SLU etc does not bring the same names as UL, uconn, and many teams be is leaving behind
