38.Vanderbilt (SEC)
40. Marshall (C-USA)
50. East Carolina (C-USA)
79.Middle Tennessee (C-USA)

82. Southern Miss (C-USA)
91.UAB (C-USA)
94. Rice (C-USA)
97. Troy (SunBelt)
111. Florida Atlantic (C-USA)
118. FIU (C-USA)
119. UTSA (C-USA)
My bet would be Rice.
Rice is expected to challenge Tulsa for the West title. They have 20 returning starters. As is the norm for Rice, they have a really good year, a couple of down years, and then a good year again. This is their good year. UAB plays arguably 5 of the top 6 CUSA teams to end the season(MTSU, Marshall, ECU, Rice, SMiss) - luckily with 3 of them at home. We need and I expect us to go 5-2 over the 1st seven games losing to LSU and Vandy(upset?) and beating Troy, Northwestern State, FAU, FIU, and UTSA. As is the norm with UAB we'll probably win one we shouldn't and lose 1 we shouldn't...

Doesn't mean Paul Myerberg's rankings will reflect that.

I'm guessing Rice is the last team under UAB if there is a team. Not Southern Miss.
BTW, Rice will probably win the West due to their conference schedule alone. I'm sure they expect the only possible loss to be to Tulsa, but Tulsa has to play ECU and Marshall.

Date Opponent / Event Location Time / Result
09/28/13 vs. Florida Atlantic * Rice Stadium 6:00 p.m. CT
10/05/13 at Tulsa * Tulsa, Oklahoma 2:30 p.m. CT
10/12/13 at UTSA * San Antonio, Texas TBA
10/26/13 vs. UTEP * Rice Stadium TBA
10/31/13 at North Texas * Denton, Texas 6:30 p.m. CT
11/16/13 vs. Louisiana Tech * Rice Stadium 6:00 p.m. CT
11/21/13 at UAB * Birmingham, Alabama 6:30 p.m. CT
11/30/13 vs. Tulane * Rice Stadium 2:00 p.m. CT
I'm with Western here. Rice is projected by most outlets I've seen to be 2nd in the West.

I also believe 5-2 is the absolute best case scenario for us starting the season out. We play at Troy, FIU, and UTSA. I would be shocked if we won all 3 of those games. We need to focus on basically winning the small battles. It is very important that we find a way to beat Troy this year. A 1-3 start would not help our guys' confidence. Going 2-2 with at least one competitive game against an SEC opponent would be huge for the team. Then, please for the love of God, beat FAU. That would have us at 3-2 going on the road against 2 of the weaker teams in the conference.(and let's not forget, until we prove otherwise, we are one of those teams.) Split those 2, and then find 2 more wins to get bowl eligible out of:
MTSU
@Marshall
@ECU-I would take losing every other game this season if we could just stomp them on their way out
Rice
USM

It's not going to be an easy task, but hopefully the team continues to progress from what we saw last year.

After 7 games, I could see this team being anywhere between 2-5 and 5-2, but most likely 3-4 or 4-3 in my opinion.
With that said, who is Paul Myerberg?

Right now I'll say Rice will lose to Tulsa, UTEP, Louisiana Tech, and UAB. So that's 4 losses right there.

A guy that actually does a little homework.
I'll remember that then.

Honestly never heard of him prior to googling him.

No way Rice loses to UTEP and LaTech lost 31 seniors from last year's team(and I'm not a Skip Holtz fan - just don't think he's a good coach)...

Mark it and take it to the bank.

Rice may be returning all their players, but those players lost to Houston, Memphis and Marshall last year.

This entire Rice hype is from a 5 game winning streak at the end of the season that consisted of them beating the likes of Southern Miss (0-12, 101 SOS), Tulane (2-10, 98 SOS), SMU (7-6, 68 SOS), UTEP (3-9, 96 SOS), and Air Force (6-7, 113 SOS).

What a powerhouse.
That having been said, I still doubt anybody else is below us considering we lost to Memphis 46-9 at home last season.

In order to get excited about the upcoming football season, I've decided that didn't happen.

I wont get excited until we can win 6 games in one season

I always get excited for football season.

Why?

1. Well, hell. It's FOOTBALL season.

2. The 2013 Blazers are currently undefeated.

the last time we had a coach with a winning record at UAB was 1994 the last time we had a winning season was 2004
forgive me if I wait for some small results before I get excited
You should definitely be excited anyway.

FOOTBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALL.
I'm excited about the 2013 season because my team is playing and I am anticipating great improvement in play and, hopefully, in its record. The record will depend upon how much MORE UAB has improved than its competition has. GO BLAZERS!!!!!!!!!!!
