Glad to have our Maryland neighbors in the fold.
Tremendous addition. Our Lax league is going to be pretty intense.

It's no ACC but we are probably in a three way tie with Ivy and Patriot for the second best lax league.
a shame that we weren't able to raid the ACC for UVA, UNC and Duke... yet heh heh
Great pick up for the Big 10.

Johns Hopkins
Maryland
Ohio St
Penn St
Rutgers
Michigan

04-cheers
There will be other schools starting up or bringing their lacrosse clubs up to competition in order to join that league. Lacrosse is a no brainer sport to get started in. You can start Men's and Women's both so there is no problem there and it is not all that costly yet it reaches a demographic these schools want to reach out to....rich folks.
yep and the rich folks are definitely paying attention. Over half of my trading floor played lacrosse at least at the hs if not college level, and some of them were star players in college.

I play on my firm's team here in DC. Lots of Ivy, ACC, and Patriot guys.
LAX doesn't exist. No sport exists unless Iowa participates.

No B1G deal here . . . . j/k.
Good pick up to get the B1G to six.

B1G women's LAX is already the top conference
Hopkins to the CIC has not been confirmed.

Has anyone seen otherwise?

Even if its part of the deal, it wouldn't be surprising if there was a pretense that it was an independent decision, in which case the CIC announcement would come on the regular CIC timetable.

I don't even know what timetable the CIC runs on ... if this would be a kind of decision for an annual meeting, they just announced Rutgers and Maryland joining the CIC, so it would have missed the meeting for this year and would happen next year.
Quote:Hopkins plans to contact the Committee of Institutional Cooperation (CIC), which features all Big Ten members and the University of Chicago, about joining the prestigious academic consortium. Rutgers and Maryland will join the CIC next month.

there you go ~ proceeding in its own more sedate pace.
Yeah, the same happened for Rutgers and Maryland but when their CIC announcements came out, their joining of the CIC was actually announced to be sooner than their joining of the Big Ten. We may definitely see that for JHU.
Now we need to get to work putting together a Big Ten Classic in Baltimore, starting the 2015 season. Invite the ACC, or if they aren't interested the New Big East.

I bet Hopkins joins the CIC on July 1, 2014 same day they become a "sports affiliate member" of the Big Ten.

There really is no reason for the CIC to act on the same time table. They dont have to schedule sporting events in the future. I would hazard a guess that the CIC is chomping at the bit to add JHU.

Do you mean a challenge like in basketball?

No, I mean a Classic, like in Lacrosse.

It, uh, being Lacrosse and all.
