Harry gives a (vague) update on future OOC scheduling, including the possibility of a guarantee game in 2014 and the outlook for the much-desired matchup with Navy:

I'd rather not do this. In 2014 it would mean only 5 home games (4 CUSA Games and Hampton).

I'd rather have six home games too. Lets see now, where did I put that bag of money? I'll just hand over $1M to ODAF and that will be the end of that. lol

I believe Selig when he says this will be a fairly rare practice.
Overtime, I usually agree with Selig's decisions. However, I don't like this move at all. Competitively, we still have a long way to go be remotely competitive against most high level BCS programs. Guarantee games should not become a way to increase revenue.
I don't like the idea of a body bag game, especially because it takes away a home game but that is serious $$$.

If ODU decides to take the payday I'd rather play a Clemson type school than a SEC juggernaut like LSU or Alabama.
I like the potential move as it will pay dividends down the road. Why would we not want to see exactly where we stand against the big boys (BCS)? Why not give Taylor and the guys a chance to play on a huge stage to see what he can do and show off his skills? Keep in mind what that senior class has done thus far for ODU and what the future may hold for them. I bet you to a man the players say let's play no matter who it is. It would potentially give us a game against the competition we aspire to play, so the team, staff and fans can see exactly how far we have come. The monetary effects are self evident. We don't have a huge war chest, so the more revenue streams we can find, the better is it for the entire athletic department. Rememer Bobby's motto - AIM HIGH. I don't think he is referring to the USAF when he says that.
We play 3 BCS schools this year and have a home and home set up with a fourth in 2014 and 2015.
I think at Clemson makes sense but Bama and Tennessee can pay significantly more which would be hard for WS to pass on. At Clemson gives all of us a reasonable chance to travel but I'd prefer the game to be early in the season.

Late season guarantee games look bad.
According to Minium, "Auburn, Texas A&M, LSU, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama all have openings on their 2014 schedules, according to fbschedules."

Personally, I like the sound of Texas A&M with a Johnny Manziel / Taylor Heinicke matchup -- Heisman Trophy winner against Payton Award winner. How much better could it get?

GIG 'EM MONARCHS!

GREAT PR Game..........would love it!
Dev,

I understand and know the schedule and I agree with you. I think we can agree that even within the BCS system there is a pecking order and the ACC is not at the top of that particular food chain.

I think a Manziel/Heinicke matchup could be one of those "perfect storm" kind of games in terms of PR and marketability to a viewing audience. I'd like for us to not play the Clooney in this rendition and get rolled over, though.
It seems that part of this may be a "reward" to someone like Heinicke sticking around.

You go play a SEC big boy on the road and the kid gets to play in front of a huge crowd and a good day helps him down the road.

Once in a while this is fine with me. ODU is going to need some cash to expand the stadium. If Tennessee wants to help out with that, let them.
Reward the team...let them play in death valley 96k or the swamp 87k. But I agree texas a & m would be the best way to go. I think people would travel for that game.

I'd be heading to College Station for that one! Already have permission from the wife! 04-cheers04-rock
