Today's dnr suggest a home and home is nearly inked. Don't know who got this done, Bourne, Brady or UVa but nice job.

Go Dukes
Brady and his staff handle scheduling almost exclusively. ADs usually play pretty hands off in negotiations.
That's awesome. Do you think we got a chance at beating them in basketball? I feel more confident about our football team against UVA. But nice nonetheless.
I'd say we are definitely underdogs, but I wouldn't expect to go in there and lose badly. I think us pulling off a win is more likely than us losing by 10 or more.
Will actually be a 2 for 1. We will go to JPJ twice per the agreement (once officially finalized).
I'll take it, as long as UVA doesn't try to find a way around not coming to us.
Anyone know the last time UVA men's bball came to play at JMU?
I believe the only two visits to JMU's campus for UVA were:
1980/81 they won at JMU 53-52 as the #3 team in the country (were #1 for a few weeks that year and finished 3rd in NCAA tourny - Terry Holland was head coach and Jim Larranaga was Asst.)
1982/83 they won at JMU 51-34 as the #1 team in the country
I believe UVA's overall record vs JMU is 8-0
@UVA - 5-0
@JMU - 2-0
@neutral - 1-0

We last played them in 2003/04

The games in the 80's were UVa honoring a promise to Ralph Sampson. Any team in the country would have done the same to sign 7'4" Ralph. Imagine if Ralph had played for JMU.

I spoke to him about this a couple of years ago. He said if JMU had been the size and had facilities that it has today he would have stayed in Harrisonburg. Can you imagine him added to the already talented teams we had in early 80's.
Its easy for him to say that now, but if you were around back in those days, he got everything imaginable from UVA. One year he even lived in Terry Holland's basement. Another year he was housed on or in the Lawn at UVA. He wouldn't have given that up.

Of course he didn't know he'd be treated so well before he got there. None the less, he was royalty on that campus. I really don't believe he'd have been anything more than another student at JMU. He'd have loved it, but still, just another student. A tall one, who could play some hoops, but just another body toting books around campus.

We didn't make over players. Just ask Gary Clark or Linton Townes. This was especially true about the faculty. As much as we loved Lou, he didn't coddle any player.

My girlfriend's dad was a graduate assistant for the UVA teams with Ralph Sampson. He played under Terry Holland at UVA and after he graduated, played a year in England. Terry asked him to come back and help coach so he did. Because he was from Staunton, he helped recruit Ralph Sampson to come play at UVA, and then coached him during his time at UVA.

Random sidenote about him, he was asked by longtime UVA women's basketball coach Debbie Ryan to be an assistant coach for the women's team but he turned it down to pursue other options. Who does Ryan turn to after my girlfriend's dad? Geno Auriemma. Really interesting guy with a lot of amazing stories.
Selig posted on rivals about the rest of the non-conference schedule. Said it was very road-heavy. Anybody with an account care to share?

Yeah, I know he was there during the 1992-93 season because i saw him on my recruiting trip in January 1993.

JMU played Auburn at home when Ralph was a JMU assistant. I remember the Auburn 6'9" and up players staring at Ralph in amazement when he walked down the ramp to the court. Auburn's 6'11" players probably had never looked "up" at anybody since 10th grade.
JMU Nation, I hope you enjoy the basketball series with UVA. It took me awhile to convince Craig that it was the right thing to do, but he is a loyal friend of almost 40 years and I truly believe that was the difference maker. Your fearless leader Jon boy Alger has expressed concern that there isn't enough momentum to fully execute the Division 1-A collegiate tackle football transition. However, the March Madness run for your basketball program is just what the doctor ordered for his confidence level. The synergy of simultaneous basketball and football success cannot be overstated. The Dukes of JMU are in a great position to capture maximum support from the fanbase and Jon is now ready to pull the right strings. I trust that my loyalty to your cause will not be forgotten when the master plan comes together following 2 iterations. Get ready for "back to the future" type conference affiliations on the East Coast. You might even consider it an Eastern College Athletic Conference that has many ties to the CAA.
Now that I've brokered the UVA basketball series, the Dukes must take full advantage by winning the watershed matchup. I will not begrudge you for besting my beloved Wahoos since it would provide a critical boost to our overall football strategy. Good Luck!
your buddy,
Terry Holland
