Sounds like Stephens is starting...

Quote:Rice Owls‏@RiceOwlsdotcom1m
Rice lineup: Stainback SS, Stringer 2B, Cook LF, Ratterree RF, Hoelscher 3B, Aquino DH, Byrd CF, Perrott C, Teykl 1B, Stephens

..."All Staff" today, I suppose, with no one going more than 1 - 3 innings. I'd expect the parade of pitchers to include Stephens, Kubitza, Fox an Lemond, at a minimum.
I don't think using Kubitza is a good idea. He threw a ton of pitches Wednesday night and should be saved for the opening game of the regional round.

I'm fine with using Stephens for 40-50 pitches since he was pulled early Thursday night for that purpose. After him, Fox, McDowell, McCanna, and obviously Lemond would be my choices.
Surprise that Teykl is getting the start at 1B over Ewing?
I've heard from someone at Reckling it's going to be Stephens for up to 3 innings. Then Fox for a couple, then Lemond the rest of the way. He wants to stretch Zechariah today.

My feed is already buffering/halting. Grrr.
JP: (USM pitcher) "deals a fast ball high. Strike one."

Stainback slaps a leadoff single.
Stringer walks on 3-2 pitch.
Cook nearly beats out a sac bunt. Runners at 2nd & 3rd, 1 out.

2 quick balls to Ratterree ... prompts a visit by USM's pitching coach. Fisk has been behind in the count to each of the Owls so far. Another high ball, then an IBB. Bases loaded for Hoelscher, the best Owl batter with runners in scoring position (0.419).

Shane ripped the third pitch down the left field line, just foul. But the rest were out of the strike zone. RBI BB. Rice leads, 1-0. Bases still loaded for Aquino.

Aquino pops up his second pitch to 2B. 2 outs. After yesterday, it's hard to argue with Aquino's aggression ... but the way Fisk is pitching, maybe take a few?

Byrd needed a cricket bat for those pitches: 4 straight balls. Another RBI BB. Action in the USM bullpen. Rice up 2-0. 2 Outs.

Perrott takes a rare first-pitch strike. Fouls one off. Takes a ball. Hard-hit line drive - foul. Ball-high. Lazy fly to 2B on outfield grass. Rice leaves the bases loaded. But we're ahead, 2-0 after 1 inning.
anybody find an internet video stream?
Game is on big screen at BWW in Lewisville if any DFW Owls interested.
USM walks in a run! Bases still loaded, 1 out for Aquino... who pops it up & is out on the infield fly.

2 out for Byrd.
Another run walked in! (on 4 pitches, no less)
I'll take the gifted walked in runs here, but would really like to see a big hit
Perrot works back from 0-2 to 2-2, but pops up to continue his 0/28 streak and end the inning. 03-no

2-0 Rice going to the 2nd.
Dang, it could have been a lot more but I will take it.
Definitely missed an opportunity there to put some big numbers on the board
Leadoff hit for USM.
T2:

Robbins hits a 1-2 pitch off the mound into CF for a leadoff single, pleasing the raucous USM fans in attendance.
Brown wiffs on 2-2 high heat. 1 out.
Slow roller leads to 4-6-3 inning-ending DP! WooHoo!

Owls leading 2-0, going to B2.

No cable here. I may head in to a sports bar about halfway through.

Channel 643 on AT&T U-Verse, to those with the sports package (which I don't subscribe to).
