I moved down here 4 years ago and I never get to see the Blazers anymore. My first time going fulltime at UAB was the fall of 2000 and I remember exactly where I was listening to the radio (of the kick) when UAB upset LSU. The Blazers come down here and play the night before my birthday, Sept 7th of this year. 02-13-banana

I need help with any/all photos you guys might have of that fateful game. That game is NOTORIOUS down here as it was Nick Saban's first year, and homecoming. There is also a specific photograph I'm trying to locate, it was supposedly in a newspaper, showing a UAB cheerleader with a Blazer flag. Supposedly it was on the eye of the tiger on the field. The newspaper would have to be Birmingham News, Times Picayune (New Orleans), or The Advocate (Baton Rouge).

I'll make another post when the game is a little closer. Maybe we can organize a little UAB tailgate for those coming down?
It was my first ever road game...a good one to start with
I found a few pics here, not the one requested, but enjoy nonetheless.

I probably don't need to say this, but the other key to messing with LSU fans is to mention Tack Minor and Squeaky Johnson in the same breath.
You can get a crap load of pictures of UAB & LSU basketball.

Haha, basketball doesn't help. 03-weeping
Unfortunately, the al.com archives expire after 10 years, but I'm sure someone with the athletic department or marketing department would be more than happy to hook you up. We love that game. It's the program-defining victory.
Do you think when we go down there, we'll hear about it and get heckled, and they'll play it up in the pregame shows, or is basically no one going to remember the last meeting? It was a long time ago. My semi-fan travel companions are trying to decide whether to wear green or white, depending on how hostile the environment will be.

Gainesville was a breeze, but we've never beaten Florida before, so no one gave a **** about UAB down there.
If someone has pictures of the 3 UAB fans tearing down the goal posts, that would be a hoot.

It will be hostile. Wear your green anyway.
1) I think the majority will care very little about what happened 13 years ago. It was a huge moment for us, it was a blip for them
2) I think it will be far less hostile than Florida. In 2000, LSU fans were far nicer, before and after, than Florida fans. Keep in mind that the age group most likely to act hostile wasn't even 10 during our last meeting.

...dang, I must have entered the wrong side of Tiger Stadium that night 03-lmfao ...overall they weren't too bad, but we got a few 'heckles' here and there walking thru the tailgates, and that flew all over my wife... I told her to expect a bit of jawing, and I kinda chuckled at just seeing them get a bit riled up over us... but we got up to the stadium and sat along a wall before the game, and talked with a few different sets of fans, who were all very cool... they were quite complementary post-game as well... so yeah, not too bad down there...

...actually the worst folks we've encountered were in Memphis, believe it or not... but then again, I didn't go to Gainesville, but I've heard enough about them from way back when I was an Auburn fan to know they are a rough bunch...01-lauramac2
the LSU loss to UAB in 2000 is STILL the most recent home non-conference loss for the Tigers. They haven't forgotten.
I didn't say they had forgotten...I just don't think most care.
Their recent success has erased any stigma from a bad loss 13 years ago. There will be some manufactured angst around game time, but it won't be genuine. We were a pissant to them then and we will be a pissant this year too.

The sad thing is that it is such a huge victory still to us. We should have topped it a couple of times by now, and crowing about a 13 year old victory over a bad LSU team says more about our program than theirs.

+1 Saban's first year there and LSU was godawful at the time he arrived. Highly doubt anyone at LSU cares about that loss with multiple national titles in recent years.
That 2000 game was followed by Josh Booty being benched in favor of Rohan Davie and beating UTK the next week and Bama later. In 2 years, they had an SEC championship and a BCS NC so they were not without talent on the field that night. Saban just didn't "have his ducks lined up" then (sort of like the loss to UL Monroe in his first year at Bama). For LSU in 2000, it was Homecoming and the team had voted to wear their purple jerseys which they seldom do at home. UAB had chosen the Kansas game as its "proxy conference game" that year instead of LSU.

Who was the WR who caught our TD pass in that game - who was much better known for dropping passes than catching them? There was a large picture of that catch in the hall of the FB building - where is it now?
Leron Little

4th 10:33 LSU - John Corbello 35 yd field goal, 9-27 2:31, UAB 10 - LSU 10

00:00 UAB - Rhett Gallego 32 yd field goal, 3-2 0:25, UAB 13 - LSU 10
I wonder how often it has happened that a non-BCS team went on the road to an upper-echelon SEC school and won despite having only 178 yards of total offense, completing just eight passes, punting ten times, and turning the ball over three times.

I can think of at least one. 04-cheers
