Jordan will help, at the minimum on defense. 6'10, 6'11 and 6'8 at the center spot. Jordan is a throw the ball into him and he can finish around the rim or kick it out. He will help the shooters a lot. Let me be the first and only one to say, if Jordan gets his wavier, we will challenge for the MAC West Crown!

...that is not saying much.
Yes it is Huskiejohn. Most have said another 5-win season. Get rid of bball, worst program in the country. You sound like Herbstreet. The rest of the country thinks winning the MAC in ftball is no big deal.

I'm pretty sure he is referring to the fact that the MAC East is way ahead of the MAC west in basketball.
For where NIU bball is, winning any crown/title would be a big deal. Many here have let it be known that they never ever will be any good. Get rid of the program has been the battle cry of most here.
Well that's just dumb. Considering back in the day we had an awesome basketball team and a meh football team (late 70's). Every program has its ups and downs. With all of these recruits they're getting it can only go up from here. I think people forget that we've been to march madness 3 times.

It always amazes me when people think we had such a great basketball team under McDougal, because the record shows different:

Year Record
76-77 13-14
77-78 11-16
78-79 14-13
79-80 16-13
80-81 17-12
81-82 16-14
82-83 11-16
83-84 12-15
84-85 11-16

82-83 11-16
83-84 12-15
84-85 11-16
4 winning seasons

In comparison to the football team... they were okay:

Year Record
76-77 1-10
77-78 3-8
78-79 5-6
79-80 5-5-1
80-81 7-4
81-82 3-8
82-83 5-5
83-84 10-2
84-85 4-6-1

2 Winning Seasons

I never realized that they were a .500 team I guess I was under the wrong impression. But maybe everyone followed the bball program closer back then since the football team was a little worse?
the league was tougher-- the games were close--- and the atmosphere was awesome!
It just shows winning is a big part of it, but it is not ALL of it!

True the overall won loss record wasn't that great but the NIU teams were a lot of fun to watch, and always competitive. MAC basketball in those days was much better than it is today. In the late 70's in particular, their were far less D1 programs than the 300+ we have today. On a relative basis teams were deeper and more talented. Some of the greatest basketball players in NIU history played from '76 to '85 including Matt Hicks, Paul Dawkins, Allen Rayhorn, Tim Dillon, and Kenny Battle.

Maybe I'm biased because those were my college years, but NIU basketball was the sport to watch. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said about football. In the 70's there was no limit on the number of scholarships a program could offer, and the big programs of the time stockpiled talent, and many talented players never saw the field. The playing field did not begin to narrow in football until the 85 scholarship limit went into effect, allowing schools like NIU to attract higher caliber recruits.
When do you think we will hear about the waiver request?

I am saying that because the team 2 years ago beat the West champ in the MAC Tournament and for a week or so this year they WERE in first place in the MAC West.

Getting a 4 seed in the MAC tournament would be more impressive.

Interesting that there was nothing in the release from NIU about a waiver being requested. Usually, with transfers, they report how many years the player has left.

Even the Great Tom Jorgensen was only great for a year or two:

1966–67 Tom Jorgensen 8–12
1967–68 Tom Jorgensen 10–14
1968–69 Tom Jorgensen 13–11
1970–71 Tom Jorgensen 13–10 4–4 3rd (Mid-Con)
1971–72 Tom Jorgensen 21–4 7–1 1st (Mid-Con)
1972–73 Tom Jorgensen 17–8
Tom Jorgensen: 82–49

Molinari only had a couple good years too.

Northern Illinois (Division I Independent) (1989–1990)
1989–90 Northern Illinois 17–11
Northern Illinois (Mid-Continent Conference) (1990–1991)
1990–91 Northern Illinois 25–6 14–2 1st NCAA First Round

Like to see us get Johnny Hill. Very talented player.
No chance. His buddy was pushed off the team last year.
No room for hill, also we are not having any trouble getting players of his caliber.
