I know NIU doesnt have much of a BCS shot this year, but I just hope that Boise St isnt a BCS buster again. I know already they wont deserve it because of how much they are overranked. I will be rooting hard for Washington in their opener. If Boise wins that game, they essentially punch their BCS ticket.

Speaking of the Orange Bowl it still just amazes me how much went right that Thanksgiving weekend, literally 12 results (probably EVERY single result) had to go the right way. Then you think about the squekers @ Army and in the MACC, it just was amazing how everything worked out. Something that falls under the radar that in my mind was as equally important as all those 12 games breaking the right way, was the Lynch for 6/Heisman campaign started by Coach Doeren. Coach Doeren knew there was no chance for a Heisman, but he had the vision to see that this campaign could boost NIU's profile in the case of a BCS discussion. I firmly believe without that campaign we fall short in the human polls to qualifying for a BCS game.

I beg to differ. When the campaign started, it wasn't even in the realm of possibility we would be a BCS buster. He was even quoted as saying Lynch deserved the award and needed more publicity. It certainly helped that Lynch's name was out there, but I argued and posted on the subject that they should drop the Heisman campaign and focus on getting into the BCS and getting our name out there. Since that was much more likely as the season winded down.
I just dont agree with that, the writing started to show up on the wall that the MAC champ would have a shot. Coach Doeren was 3 steps ahead and I congratulate him and am very thankful he had that vision. OSU's ineligibility playing a major role.
Coach Carey needs additional media training, for example he needs to learn to say the word "upset" rather than the word "pissed". Is this really important? I think that it is. He is a very public representative of NIU . I remember an early press conference from DD where he said that he had been preparing for years to become a HC including all aspects of the job including how he would handle press conferences,

To coach Carey's credit he has acknowledged that he needs to improve at this and I think that he will. I predict that he will be a successful HC at NIU.
You're going to have close games no matter who you are, but we outplayed every team on the schedule sans Florida State last year.

I like Carey's candor and down to earth attitude. Though the word pissed may not be appropriate talking to one's Grammy, I don't think it is the least bit offensive. I hate the politically correctness Bikechuck, it pisses me off to be honest. 04-cheers

Agreed, Carey is not the AD, he's the coach...he doesn't need to be soft and fake. As long as he isn't abusive or embarrassing, grammar choices of saying a word like "pissed" should be the last of our concerns with the guy...

Boise has a ballbuster of a scheduled this year. besides opening on the road at Wash U, they're at BYU, SJST & SDST. If they win their division they'll likely have to beat UT ST to win the MWC. The odds against them pulling all that off are quite large. Obviously not impossible but with that schedule I like the Huskie's chances alot better.
