Looking primed for another 2nd place finish in the West 03-wink

Wow. Three years and they are already insufferable 03-wink
Too long.
It looks like TO is getting bigger and stronger. Looking forward to this season. We should have the offensive weapons to keep pace with most teams if we can execute and playcalling is good. Hopefully the D will surprise us. An improved D could win us the West and the MACC. I dream of again having a defense like the one we had the year we beat Pedophile St. in Happy Valley.

Let's see, the greatest NIU FB team ever beat a 9-4 Rocket team in DeKalb by 7.

Should be huge Senior years for Owens, Flu, and Reedy

The 2000 Rockets executed as well as any college team I have ever followed. On defense they didn't miss tackles, they didn't miss assignments, they didn't commit stupid penalties and they had 8 defense linemen who were totally interchangeable without loosing a beat.

IMO the offense needs to work on solving the "red zone" meltdown problems they often suffered from last year.......and this is as much on the coaches' play calling as it is on the players' execution.

Should be a good year but at this stage of the off-season I was much more optimistic about the potential for great things from the 2011 team than I am about this one.

The Redzone problem was inlarge part due to the fact that UT graduated 3 OL that had 124 starts in their careers. The returning 2 starters had 23 starts.

And the offense was pretty good too. Run Chester Run!

Absolutely. I am also looking forward to Alonzo Russell, McDowell, Jones-Moore, Macon, Remy, and Olack. My guess is that one or more of these young men (or some other dark horse) will step up into a bigger role this year.

Agreed, also on the red-zone issues. I saw flashes of brilliance on both sides of the ball last year, but key mistakes were far too plentiful. The redzone execution was certainly a big part of our demise in a couple games. If you have a high powered offense and a mediocre defense, the offense has to finish drives if we are to beat the better teams. Hopefully the return of Kerin, Mancz, Hendershot, and Myers in conjunction with the experience of of our skilled players discussed above will bring our offense to a new level this year.

As far as comparison to other recent teams, it's hard for me to make predictions until I see the first couple games. This year is going to be a crazy one starting on the road with Florida and Missouri, but I hope we see some parity and some good competition out there against these programs. On paper, our solid recruiting over the past couple years should theoretically have us deeper and more solid across the board to be able to compete on this level. We are going to need to be deep and sub often to play with these teams, especially with the heat early in the season we will likely be dealing with.

No doubt. I'll settle for "Run Flu Run!" this year. It might be almost as good...we'll just have to wait and see! On that time killing drive vs Cincy in the 4th quarter, we saw the type of strength and power Flu has to offer, and we saw some good speed from him last year as well. That D-line for Cincy was pretty stout and athletic too. I hope he is healthy and pumped because I have a feeling he is going to be called on a lot this year. We really need a second back or two step up big-time so we can keep Flu healthy throughout the season.

Go Rockets!04-rock
The offense should score a lot of points. Hopefully more than the defense gives up.

From the scrimmage it looks like they can put together a package that switches from run to pass without substituting like in the past. This should allow the rockets to run when pass defenses are in and pass when run defenses are in. Quite the advantage.
