My question is, when will ticket costs result in people choosing to sit at home and watch on the couch? Do you think it would be right for a city to shell a Billion+ out?

It will be obsolete and torn down before it's paid off.

The GA Dome is only 21 years old and they have a team that can't play outside to save their lives. It's something they don't need at all.
So long as they stick to classic architecture, it's guaranteed to age gracefully and not be a giant eye sore in twenty years...

Oh wait, that looks like a tacky christmas ornament.

They're trying to be futuristic. Too bad the idea of futuristic changes all the time. Think about the room of the future they paraded around in the 60s and what that looks like now. This would do the same thing.
Georgia Dome sucks. Terrible venue for football. it feels like arena ball. That being said as ahuge football fan and atlanta resident.. using any taxpayer money for this stadium is a terrible idea. The current dome is good enough. I could see some reason for this if it wasn't being built in downtown Atlanta with all the traffic issues...but this idea is terrible. Roads full of potholes. Subpar school systems... homeless in record numbers on the streets... This is an exceptionally poor way to spend taxpayer money... The ATL is FUBAR.

There are a handful of architectural styles that age well, "modern" generally isn't one of them.

The new Yankee Stadium did it right.

Neoclassical tends to last. I don't know what brings about super modern stuff.
We have too many problems within our city to be focused on a dang stadium. This Stadium idea has caused more problems than what Aurthur Blank and crew claim it will solve. I’m all for the city making progress but in our current facility we have the SEC Title game, a top tier bowl game, we just hosted the Final Four, we have hundreds on conventions a year, and event after event. Right now there is not a NEED for a new stadium.

wow. this is OT. But Alabama State has a beautiful stadium. It looks huge. Are you guys considering moving up to FBS? FAMU came close to moving up a few years ago.
Considering the New Vikings Stadium Boondoogle, I heartily encourage the residents of the Great State of Georgia to insist, with threat of civil unrest and violent overthrow of the State Government, that any and all costs for a new stadium be 110% privately financed.
I think it is cool as schit...but..there is nothing particularly wrong with GD. Looks like a boondoggle to me.

Thanks man!. There are no plans to move to FBS right now. The idea was bounced around but there isnt a lot of interest from fans/alumni.

That exactly what I thought it looked like.
To help pay this off they'll have to turn the stadium into a tourist attraction like Jerry Jones did. Things are so expensive at JerryWorld that it costs $65 to park your car a half mile away, hotdogs are like $12 as are small cups of beer. The cost of a ticket is just a small part of the cost of watching Romo choke.
Tacky ornament is a nice way to put it. It's hideous.

Also, with all the urgent problems faced by Atlanta and the surrounding region, it's incredible that the taxpayers would be expected to chip in for this -- especially when the GeorgiaDome is only 20-21 yrs old and is perfectly fine for continued use. If the Falcons don't like it, they can go somewhere else.
I kind of like the rendering - makes it look like one of the fortune telling games that my 9 year old likes to make (pick a number daddy and then a color and then a number again).

I did see another story on the stadium and this rendering was much better than the other one they released as a possibility. It also had some interesting concepts for stuff inside including a 100 yard long indoor bar, seats that shake when there is a collision on the field, and the world's first fantasy football bar (which kind of looks like a cross between the New York Stock Exchange and a sports bar).

I smell a "Bait and Switch" to get a more expensive design that they really want.

They need to build it and you need to pay for it. This needs to happen so that I can enjoy it. Impact seats!! Are you kidding? Yes, please. COGS
How about instead Atlanta stops the areas near the stadium, particularly around Clark College, from being one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the country?
