We will be moving up to fbs is our band making the same move? Allot of these bands have drumline comps before or after the game. They march about 350 and the shows are just better. Even jmu as much as I don't like them robert did a great job with that band.

What about our cheerleaders? Allot of these squads have national titles for cheer alone.

And our dance team? Well enough said there.

Well I can't speak for the cheerleaders or dance team, but I'm in marching band. Have been since the first year of football. Some bands march about 350, but that's way too big in my opinion. JMU has so many people that they can't all march on the field and they have alternatives and stuff. When it comes to drill for the show, you can't even do any intricate things with that many people on the field. Plus, it's all about recruiting, so I'd imagine we'll get more people, because we're traveling to a lot more games as well. Drum line competitions, well that's up to the band directors of each school. To answer your question, I'd imagine we'll have more people, but I don't want that many people in a band to be honest. Maybe 250 is decent to me. The most we've had since I've been here is 170 I think. I've liked our shows overall.. I'm bias, because I'm playing in them, but still.
Band can't expand until the stadium expands. student section is maxed out
Sec we marched 425 and did cool things with great shows. It will be a chance. For pep band we had about 50 and all paid games for basketball. $20 a game and any time we travels about $150 cash to each member. Even marching band. $150 for an lsu game for 425 members do the math. Good times for sure.
JMU marched 450 last year!

I think a good number and goal for our music department should be about 350 by 2014

Just my 2 cent.:
Aim High Marching Monarchs

PS: I love our band, great fun to watch and love the enthusiasm. Keep up the good work!
I think as we add more dorms, the more on campus students, the bigger the band will get. I would love to see a band of about 250-300 members. As far as the student section, well most of them leave early so no loss there.

Haven't you run out of eligibility if you have been with the band since day one!?!

Marching band doesn't work like athletic teams, even though we're part of the athletics department. As long as we're an undergrad there is no time limit of how long we can be in band. besides it was only my 4th year this past season. Next season is my last. I'm graduating next spring.
Odu has I just hope we expand the band does too. Right now for only 4 years its going in the right direction but our opponents will have huge band with lots of history and big sounds. I hope alex buys the shows and music. This year. I look at jmu and robert w smith did and wonder.
I would definitely like a larger band with a more robust sound. We do well with what we have, but as with everything else we need to grow. FAMU has a very large band and are still able to perform some nice field shows. They're not super intricate, but they are really neat. I remember a few years ago they played "Toxic" by Britney Spears and made a huge hypodermic needle on the field, compressed it, and out flowed the word "toxic". The quality of sounds tends to get lost with those type of things, but they aren't really concerned about their sound quality for songs like that. It's when they stand in their concert formation in the middle of the field that their best stuff is played. Here's a clip of them performing the "20th Century Fanfare" after playing "Move" by Ludacris.

They can play popular music, but they can also switch things up. Their grand marches sound really good as well.

I grew up listening to FAMU, JMU, NSU, VMI, and VSU. I love marching bands! Yes it took me until college to get laid...lol. J/k. Not really...
I hope the stadium expansion improves the acoustics of Foreman. I may be the only one but the band sounds quiet during HT performances.
Famu one of the best. They play gator growl uf homecoming every year. But ithink some of our visiting teams will have some big bands coming in here. Remember fcs doesn't have the budget but fbs does. Utsa travels so does marshall. Utep travels too. And if we are going to play texas teams once a year they probably will bring at least a pep band. Like I say fbs is the unknown with odu. I can only speak from sec knowledge we traveled at least once a year out of state and three times close to our school. Basketball we traveled for any away games and big rival games. Always tournaments no matter what it was. And if the other teams got far enough along in their tournaments we traveled there too. Baseball world series...softball we went to all of those.
But then again I'm more of a corp person then show band.
I like NSU band -the dancing
