in Lima Peru with blood clots. This is serious stuff, and he needs your prayers. (sorry if already posted)
Did this happen overnight?

I saw that he was posting last night on twitter.

Thoughts are with him right now.
Will say a prayer for him.

I spoke with his Mom and Dad yesterday (Wed.) They indicated that he had been having symptoms for some time. Im not sure when he was admitted.
Praying for him. I saw he lasted tweeted about a half hour ago. I sent him a S/O on twitter too.
Man, you need to post more when the subjects are lighter.

Godspeed, BTR.

Agreed.

I can't imagine how scary it is to have that serious of an illness in a foreign country.
The latest:

"YES!!! I was just given permission to roam anywhere on the hospital grounds. There is a cafeteria on the first floor. 03-wink "

Also, for BTR, Peru is not a foreign country. He's lived there for years.

Unless his living there has improved the medical care to the standards of the United States, my point stands.

Prayers for you BTR.
I am certain Milo's sauce and sweet tea played a role in this somehow.

He needs some death row wing sauce to thin out his blood
I don't think having him breathe fire will bust up those clots. Hope to hear good news about this soon, will be praying.
Hi all... it has been a LONG two weeks. I have been in the hospital 9 out of 14 days. Here is the story.

On April 12th I woke up at 12:30 AM with severe pain in my back. My wife was in Argentina so I waited until about 730 AM to go to the ER hoping that it would get better. The initial assumption was kidney stones - everything looked like this and the sonogram showed several stones in my kidney. We live really close to the hospital so they let me go home while the meds were helping my pain. I ended up going to the ER three times that day. My wife returned home that night and met me at the ER. It is so much more comfortable at home than in the hospital, I returned home well medicated.

In the morning (April 13th) we went back to the ER and they began to think that it might not be kidney stones. After a couple of CT scans they ruled out kidney stones dropping and noticed inflammation of the pleura on the very bottom of the right lung. The CT Scan looked like pneumonia and they began treating it as such. On Tuesday the 16th they released me with the plan on having another CT scan on the 23rd.

Came back to the hospital on the 23rd for the follow up CT scan but it was very obvious that something wasn't right. The radiologist came and stopped them from taking out the IV and about 4 minutes later I saw my doctor running down the hall. He ran in, told me I had a large pulmonary embolism and wheeled me right to the emergency room where they gave me a heparin injection. They later found more clots in my leg and I have been in the hospital ever since.

Tonight the doctor told me that I can go home tomorrow afternoon. Which is GOOD NEWS!

The good news is that the PE didn't do any damage. I am being treated with Coumadin and heparin - actually just had my last injection of heparin :) I will be on Coumadin for the next six months and will have frequent blood work to make sure that my levels stay within the acceptable range. I will not be flying for about two months and will restrict my travel to major cities for about the next 6 months.

Thanks for your kind words and prayers. I HIGHLY recommend those who travel a lot to take the deep vein thrombosis threat very seriously. I have already bought some of those ugly compression socks and they should be in Peru Monday.
Glad to hear you're going to be heading home soon. Make sure you don't play with pointy objects in the foreseeable future, by the way.
BTR, thanks for the update. Prayers still being said for you.
