Looking through the interactive seating map on ticketmaster.com. Is the bloom gone when the city can't sell out a playoff game?

Memphis is like any city around its size or even bigger. If you want decent seats you are going to pay anywhere between $350 - $500 for a pair. That money will buy groceries for a month; 2-3 meals at a really nice restaurant, car payment for a month, phone bill for a year, or a pair of tickets to see a sure thing like the Rolling Stones, U2, Springsteen, etc.

The last point is probably the most important. IF the fans knew for sure that for $500 they could have an experience that would be thrilling and memorable, there wouldn't be any problem selling out. The problem is that the team can fall flat and lose 95 - 84.

That is a lot of money to risk on something that might not be fun at all.
An 0-2 start isn't going to help sell tickets.

thats why a lot of people threw in the towel on tiger football.
Stammers, the tickets still available are mainly in the $35 sections.
Don't get why this is on this forum????

Princess, I hope you're able to find the tickets you're looking for. You may want to try Stub Hub.

I wouldn't pay $350 for season tickets to the Grizzlies even if they let me sit on the bench, much less 1 game.

NBA hoops = 03-zzz

Yeah I mean I'd much rather watch a bunch of kids jack up shots and shoot 30 percent and turn the ball over 20 times every game. So much better.

It's the offseason. It has long been a policy of this forum to be more tolerant of NTR threads during the offseason, particularly those related to sports, and double-particularly those related to Memphis-area sports teams.
Those $35 seats are awful.

Bad policy. I have seen many threads moved which had much more to do with Tiger sports than the Grizzlies do. I doubt that there are any Tigers threads on Grizzly forums. Why do we always get the ass-end of double standards?
what is the grizz message board?
boards.grizzliesonline.com

Occasionally there ARE some Tiger threads over there, as well as a lot of Tiger/Grizz fans posting. Funny, when it occasionally happens, nobody seems to mind all that much, particularly in the offseason.

I don't understand the loud objections to the Grizzlies here. Someone could post a thread about the local AAU team, and it's fine. Someone posts about the Miami Heat or the Lakers, and we get only mild objections. But lord-a-mercy, if someone should so happen to post a Grizzlies thread during the offseason and NBA playoffs, there's gonna be a problem.

For some reason.

It's a Memphis complex....keep your own down
I was simply pointing out that we call ourselves a basketball town, but yet first home game of the playoffs still has a decent amount of tickets available. I would post the same if the Memphis-Louisville game had the same (and it might have, can't remember).
I've got tickets for Thursday, so I'll get to see what happens. Kind of similar in '11 when the Grizz were playing the Spurs. Had a few tickets still up for grabs before the game and a lot of Memphis media folks were bitching about it not being a sellout. Well, I was there and it was definitely sold out.....completely. I would expect the same for game 3 on Thursday.

I don't think that it is similar. The Grizzlies have a great product and a great atmosphere for the games. Tiger football so far isn't a great product. I've had $50 dinners that weren't as good as $500 dinners, but they were much much better when you factor in costs.

Grizzles' basketball is like dinner at Morton's. You can have a superb dinner that is worth $400, and you can have an experience that is still good but not worth $400. I had a dozen meals in Memphis for less than $40 that were phenomenal for what I paid.

The price is right for Memphis football. You get to spend a day outdoors, it is affordable for the whole family, you can hang out at Tiger Lane. All that is missing is a fun product to watch.

I'll bet if the football team starts 3-0, you'll have 40,000 for the UCF game.

yawn

mods will move it if needed. it's the offseason, so threads like this are ok here. if you don't want to read it, don't open it...simple as that.

According to MT.org, the purpose of the Main Forum is to: "Discuss everything related to the Memphis Tigers and general University of Memphis information."

OTHO, the purpose of The Grindhouse " is home to discussions regarding the Memphis Grizzlies and the National Basketball Association."

Furthermore, a Mod in the following thread made it clear that Tiger related posts are not allowed in the Griz Forum It seems reasonable, therefore, that Griz related posts do not belong in a Forum dedicated to the Tigers.
