Thanks, you made my day! I'm glad I could make someone feel like they could come home again! 03-cloud9
If Spanky isn't fired right now, I promise you I will get all gangsta up in here....01-lauramac2 just kidding.
I'm ashamed to admit that I have never been to a JMU baseball game. The worst part is I can hear the games and I can see the lights from my house but I never go...

I'll go to a few games this season.
Lost game 1 today 14-12.

Now 10 straight conference losses.

I have gone to 10+ games this year and I have left all but 2. This team is so frustrating to watch. Our pitching staff is terrible. After 7 consecutive walks today in the game I just had to leave. This has been a timeless question regarding Spanky, he is supposed to be a pitching guru as he has written books about pitching but year after year we have no middle relief. Even when we have a good team and record we still have no middle relief, we always have to out-slug people.

Baseball program needs a breath of fresh air just as our softball program has received and look at the results. Softball won 2 more today and is UNDEFEATED in conference. Way to go Softball Dukes! Let's host the CAA softball tournament! oh yeah and Fire Spanky!
Spanky made his case in the DNR last week about how he has changed his philosophy completely. He was always a long ball coach and was content to win games 14-12. He contends that in order to get to the next lever, Super Regionals, we need to play small ball and rely on defense and pitching. He is thusly recruiting to that new philosophy. The team doesn't understand it yet, though. We certainly aren't a long ball team anymore. I think we are last in the league in home runs. He said it would be painful for a year or two, but in the long run we would be a lot better for it. Don't know if I am buying it.

This change in philosophy works fine if we have the pitching to play low scoring games. Clearly, our pitching staff has been a big issue the last 2 years. I am fine with our offense actually, it is the pitching that sucks and he did not change anything in the pitching philosophy so there is no reason to be this bad. Last year he could blame injuries, this year we have been healthy and still can't win conference games.

There is a local left handed pitcher who is going to UVA on scholarship and got no looks from JMU. Another guy at the same high school is a junior and is getting looked at by ACC schools, and again, JMU has no interest at all. This is why our pitching staff is not doing well enough, he is not recruiting the right guys. Can't win if you don't get good pitchers, and we are ignoring ones right in our own back yard.

03-yawn I know I'm not buying it....it's just another excuse.

Time for a real change in philosophy, and that means a new HC and staff.
Pretty sad that we again are hosting CAA baseball tourny & might not be participating again.
Changing philosophy is one thing, but that does not explain the extremely high errors that our team has been having. One does not explain the other in my opinion.
I'm not a baseball guy but I agree with JMUDukes20 that it would seem to not really matter what the offensive strategy is when the pitchers are getting pounded game after game.
Diamond Dukes came from behind today (they were down 5-0 at one point) but mounted a rally and took the series 2-1 from GA ST. Might be too little, too late to make the CAA tourney, but hope springs eternal.

Go Dukes!
