For some reason, their coach is getting a lot of national exposure. I saw a long interview with him this morning on national TV about the Mike Rice, Rutgers, situation. Why, of all the coaches in the nation, they would interview the Georgia State coach, I don't know.

Maybe it's because Atlanta is a media hotbed, and since he's located there, he was selected for the interview. He's a very personable guy, and obviously a pretty darn good coach. He took a program that was way down, and won 22 games his first year when most thought they'd be lucky to win 5 games. All this publicity is bound to help his recruiting efforts.

I'm still bummed that some of these mid majors can get good local players to stay home, and we can't get a sniff. Of all the things that bug me about our program, that might be the thing that bugs me the most.01-lauramac2
When he took the job, he said he was going to take advantage of his situation of being in Atlanta with all local talent and their media market. CNN and turner broadcasting are both a few blocks from the campus. Espn has a studio in Atlanta. It helps that he has a sense of humor and personable. He uses his twitter account to promote his program and he even promoted the sun belt on it. And since he has been there the local paper ajc has given georgia state more coverage. Plus it helps that he is a humanitarian.
Georgia State is terrible and has been for many years. Maybe this coach can turn things around, but they are not a competitive add right now. They can be good in years to come though, and this coach looks like he's putting them on the right track.

I haven't followed GaState since we separated as conference mates, but I have no doubt they will be a very competitive team in the Belt next year. I'll be very surprised if the don't finish in the top half of the league. If we add a team that is better than half the league members (granted some will be other new members) that's a good addition.
