I somehow assumed he was an African American kid who was a Juco transfer. I was surprised to see a big white kid who was a Freshman starting for a Final Four team. He made the right choice. Of course he could have sat home in his comfortable chair and watched the tournament if he had signed with us.04-cheers

I figured when Wichita State entered the picture, on a small town Kansas kid, we were done. But he initially indicated he would stick with us. Haven't had a tall guard who could shoot like him since Barksdale. Difference is Baker is built like a rock. I think there is a good chance we'll see him in the NBA one day.
They came so close.

That kid was a difference maker for us.
If we fielded a "Nearly came to UALR team" we might contend for a national championship.

"Now that's Funny"
Was he committed to us? And if he was, how would we have known? The coaches can't talk about a player until he signs. And we're not on Rivals are we, so he wouldn't have been listed there. And our newspapers never say anything about anything that's going on with recruiting, so how in the heck did anyone know about our supposedly being in on this kid?

Coaches can talk off the record to fans and often do. Other athletic department employees often "hear" stuff and will talk to people as well. Jeff posts stuff on his blog. Don't know that Ron Baker ever "committed". But we thought we had a good shot at him and almost stole a diamond in the rough.
