Quote:Liberty athletics director Jeff Barber said Tuesday night that the university is in discussions to join the Sun Belt Conference, the first public comments acknowledging Liberty as an option for the conference.

“It’s just the continual changing of the landscape with Tulsa leaving Conference USA to go to the [soon to be renamed] Big East and Western Kentucky left the Sun Belt to go into Conference USA, so it opened up another spot,” Barber said. “We’re one of those being considered.”

Barber’s statement confirms reports from national outlets, which cited sources hinting that Liberty was one of the schools in consideration to replace Western Kentucky. WKU announced Monday it is moving from the Sun Belt to Conference USA.

Liberty made waves last year when Jerry Falwell Jr. said during his commencement address that Liberty was “FBS ready” and the university was looking to make the move up to the Football Bowl Subdivision.

“Liberty has always had a desire to be a national university and not just regional,” Barber said. “The Sun Belt certainly offers that opportunity if we’re fortunate enough to be a part of that. It’s exciting.”
According to many sources Liberty is not longer a candidate for the SBC.
Ever hopeful. I am not counting on any invitations until we win a men's NCAA tournament basketball game and advance in the FCS football playoffs, or show the kind of national fan support that BYU and Notre Dame enjoy. But I am ever hopeful.

They deserve more respect then they are getting.
