What do you think of new name.
I like it. I agree with Aresco: it's a strong, durable and aspirational name for our re-invented Conference.
I like it a lot as long as we use AAC.
I agree. We must use AAC. Then I will like it. We must force the issue by using AAC at every turn. Fans need to chant AAC at games.
You need to add a choice that says, "At least I will never see another conference naming thread on this board."

You know that is not true in the world of Conference Realignment.

Amen.

I have no problem with "American Athletic Conference" or the "AAC." "The American" is just plain idiotic.
I like it well enough. I feel people will end up calling it the AAC. I still would've preferred something like the American Metro Conference, but we can't have our 'druthers all the time.

ANYTHING is better than Cusa......ECU, Tulsa, and Tulane will have a long year of attacks from other Cusa members......especially the newbies who think they played in SEC and not WAC, Sun Belt, etc.

I know my reputation points will be in red before this next year ends.

Just use logic and kindness, man. It's worked for me. (Oh, and always be honest, yet tactful.)
I suggested the "American Conference" last year. I see no need to add "Athletic" to the name.
I think you would have more negative results if you
took this poll before the name announcement. Now
everyone knows we have to live with it. Should have
stayed away from "America". All our SEC buddies will
now refer to us as "Conference America". The AAC is also
too close to ACC. Someone said there is another AAC.
Not sure if true. I can't believe the consulting groups did
not think of these problems. I think Aresco was adamant
to use "America" in the name.
I don't mind it.

I don't think we'd have a consensus on a name no matter what direction we went.

You needed another choice on the poll............

"Don't like it because it's not what I would have named the conference"

It would have been interesting to see the number of votes that would have received.

Having said that, I picked it's OK.
I have to say...with the opinions on this board, that poll turnout indicates the name was a huge success.
Its OK, not great though.

Would have preferred METRO

I agree. People were going to have a tantrum no matter. Considering the reaction is neutral is a good sign. The other options were really bad. I liked All-American Conference but this is good enough to brand.
The name itself is not that bad, but no one will ever call us the 'American Athletic Conference'. No one, ever.

You have to be known by your acronym, or your brand name. Our acronym is confusing with our biggest competitor (AAC - ACC), and it's already IN-USE by the appalachian athletic conference. The acronym the biggest problem.

By using 'American', we have forever linked ourselves with cUSA. That's a simple reality. Where we should be trying to distinguish ourselves from the GOF pack, and try to hang with the Power 5 (or atleast establish ourselves as the clear #6)... we are now (in name) a clone of cUSA. Don't forget, that's exactly what the powers-that-be were TRYING to do... push us down to their level.

If we use 'The American' as our brand, that's just a matter of taste. Personally, I find that vague and misleading. There are no foreign conferences in the NCAA. It also just sounds weird (for a football conference), like an old John Wayne movie.

To me it just looks like we worried too much about finding a name no one could make fun of... and we should have more confidence than that.
rather just go with CTBA.
It doesn't sound any more like CUSA than the American Football Conference.

As for the ACC comparison, do people get the Big 12 and the Big 10 confused??

The endgame IMO was finding a name that fit in with that group.
