Junk science, over diagnosis, or the insane becoming the sane and vice versa?

I'm guessing over diagnosis.

Some doc tried to tell me my daughter (2 at the time) may have ADHD since she had a short attention span. Tell, me, have you EVER seen a 2 year old that didn't have a short attention span?
I don't understand why so many find it to be a good idea to give children mind altering drugs. I have had some wild days in my past and I can tell you with 100% certainty that Ritilan produces almost the identical effect as cocaine. Can't possibly be good for you, especially for a child.

Junk science, and a consequence of feminism.

The drugs are to make life easier for the adults, not the kids.

This.

I also feel that parents today want the 'easy way out'. Instead of parenting they turn to diagnosis like this and medication to help control their children.

Why do that when the television is so much easier, and cheaper.

just kidding/kind of.
A more accurate way to say it:

"One in 5 parents of boys prefer them in a drug-induced stupor".
I was reading this article, and the first thought tha.................. what?
I have a step son with ADHD, and up until I met him I had never heard of it. Let me tell you, it was murder because he has the worst possible kind you can have. My wife went to shrink after shrink and all of them agreed that he had ADHD, but some included the possibility of bi polar disorder and depression. My wife tried everything but strongly resisted drugs until it was the only option left and when she decided to use them the side effects were worse than the illness. Interestingly enough, if you ever want to see a super hyperactive kid calm down, if he really has ADHD, give him one of those high energy/caffeine drinks and it will do the trick.

Anyway, having lived the last 8 years of my life with someone who truly has this disorder and learning all I can about it, I can honestly say I see a little ADHD in most people.

Curious that caffeine calms them down.

This is the tragedy: a truly hyperactive kid won't get as much help b/c of the over diagnosis. Of course the flip side of drugging normal boys isn't good either.

I had friends once whose young son was a touch hyperactive, but they refused to accept it b/c of the stigma and the overdiagnosis. Too bad, b/c he was a sweet kid.
1 in 5 men have ADD. Have you ever been to a work meeting? What are we talking about?

What does the Bible say? Obviously that is more scientific.

It seems to me that a number of you guys on the right were given mind altering drugs as children-and continue to use them.
I heard on the news (Did not RTA so it might be there as well) that they will be revising the parameters for diagnosis and expect the new numbers to be near 50%...

If 50% of a population has something is it really a disorder anymore?

No, they are just going to make sure any child without blue blood is diagnosed with something that way they lose their 2nd amendment rights before they even get that right once the new "mental health" regulations are being put into effect.

Sounds like they did everything right smn.

I have experience with a family member being afflicted with something that a lot of people think they have... It maddening so see someone with real depression compared to people who get the winter blues or some other mild change in mood.

(Real Depression. psychological hold, threat to themselves, and needs years of treatment and love to learn to handle it)

You really are the worst kind of poster. Nothing credible to add to any discussion, yet you have an uncontrollable urge to pipe up anyway.
What used to be simply a very active child that craved activity...is now a mental patient needing drug therapy. My mother taught the 2nd grade for 31 years. She says she had the same kids with the same problems decades ago...She just recognized it and kept them busy doing something...even if it meant pointing them outside and making them run laps around the playground.
