He's from LA... Why not coach a team in LA?

His last coaching job was with the LA D-League team.

Because an L.A. team didn't hire him?

Maybe you should stick with Miami, because Northridge is LA.

I thought Theus would be a great fit to succeed Alford at UNM, but I think UNM is looking internally.

He'll tear it up in the WCC.

Then your question doesn't make any sense.

P.S.- Not technically in L.A. But still...

Super funny. I was big time on board. Glad we ended up with who we got though.

It does if you read it in a "hey, give it a chance" tone.

And Northridge is in LA county so that makes it LA.

Unless you think LA in my post meant Louisiana.

You're just trying to play off not realizing Northridge was an LA school.
Northridge is LA like Bartlett is Memphis. In other words, it is LA.

I didn't realize that.

It kinda shows the herd mentality (or desperation) at that point. Once it was thought that Theus would be the main target, people immediately bought into it and got all fired up (except some...cough...contrarians).

Same for Pearl...a VAST majority of people who vilified Pearl a week earlier were on board for hiring him then three days later were calling him Pealvert again.

Sad, at this point (April 3, 2009) the two main "Mtorg" choices were Theus and Avery Johnson.

My main main HoopDreams was infatuated with Theus.

I think it was desperation more than anything. At that point, it seemed like we were out of options. Theus and Johnson sort of looked like basketball coaches who had kind of coached teams at a high-ish level and had names people would maybe slightly recognize. Consequently, they were thought by many (including me) to be better than anyone left on the table, and honestly, can we really be blamed? 03-lmfao

The Pearl thing... well, that just showed that a significant chunk of the fanbase would rather have had a relevant basketball program with an enemy defector at the helm than an irrelevant basketball program with a nobody at the helm.

Fortunately, we pretty much landed on our feet with Pastner.

Anyone who is critical of his performance might take a step back if they could just go back to that time and see what a cluster-truck it all was. We were sort of doomed. Pastner pulled ours out of the fire big time IMO.
That's a very scary thought.
All I care to remember about Cal State-Northridge is Roburt Sallie dropping 10 threes on them in the 2009 dance.

Sallie on FIRE!
