Sounds like it will be Metro something and be right after the final 4.
I appreciate the honesty in the interview. Certainly not sunshine and roses about the league, but it's not all good so trying to spin it that way would just make him look like he's burying his head in the sand.
Sounds like he sees the 15 to 20 million in exit fees as a money bridge keeping Cincinnati competitive with the big 5 conference schools for the next few years. Also noted that only exit fees where mentioned and not the conference's NCAA basketball credits.
Good interview. I wish UConn's AD were out there saying more of the right things to reassure our fanbase. Our AD is at least putting together pretty aggressive schedules OOC for football and hoops though, so that's a good thing.

Careful with that reach. You might strain something.
He was really honest and down-to-earth. Gotta appreciate that in the chaos of realignment

I think they've said it publicly quite a few times.
I didn't realize Cincy was moving to a new league until this article clarified it eight times. It had been my understanding the conference membership was changing as was the name.
He's honest and forthright as much as he can be. So what if he's looking around for a better deal? If my school's AD (or your school's AD) isn't doing that, then he should be canned. This is a "challenger" conference made up of "challenger" schools that are all hoping to move up to the big time (well, maybe not all of them, but most of them). I like a lot of what he said:

Quote: If there’s another round of realignment, we want to be ready for that.
You’ve got to make the best of it and keep going. It should keep us on our toes because we don’t want to get passed. Memphis is going to be better by coming into this league, Houston and Central Florida. We’ve got to make sure that what little advantage we have, that we stay out in front of it. I guess the benefit of it is hopefully if things are going to stabilize for awhile, I think the group that is in this league now is looking for stability.
I don't think I've EVER read that website, yet it popped up with a "We hope you enjoyed your complimentary access" and wouldn't let me read the article.
Not a ringing endorsement of new conf. I agree with what someone said. Instead of saying conf. members want them to be a good partner, why doesn't he just say we will BE a good partner. Why doesn't he just gung ho talk up new conf, and then when ACC comes calling quietly pursue that as much as he wants, but in the mean time talk up the new conf non stop. This is what should be done as long as they are a member.

Whit has been the most conservative and negative AD in terms of revenue and prospects for this league. As a UC fan it bugs me that he isn't been more optimistic about the league because there really isn't anything Cincinnati can do to get realignment moving again.

Schools need to be careful about what they wish for. Most important thing for Cincinnati is to win. Playing regional teams and name opponents is nice but losing kills a fan base. If the Bearcats put together WVU's football and basketball resume this season the bandwagon would empty.

Trust me. It's probably for the better.
If UC can improve it's home OOC football schedule things will work out. If they can not get teams to come to Nippert than things will decline fast. Cincy is a pro town and it will not get excited about playing Memphis, SMU, Houston, UCF, Tulsa and Tulane. UC did not Get sell outs when Sryacuse, Pitt, Rutgers came to town and those teams were higher in profile than our new partners. Those are the facts.
Still can't understand why some teams won't play here.

I would say it's a lot related to your stadium size. ECU had real issues getting a lot of top notch OOC opponents to come until we got capacity up over 40k and now up to 50k. Obviously some schools like Ohio State will probably never come, but if your stadium held 45-50k I bet the list of power conference schools willing to come would go up. I know you guys have a space issue so would it even be possible to get capacity that high?
The expansion will take the stadium up to 45,000 right?

I believe it could happen. In fact, I believe there were renderings done a few years back that would have taken capacity up that high. That being said, we don't really need to take capacity up to 50k. For one, it's a foolish addition if most of those seats sit empty. If we're playing Florida State at home in the ACC, maybe they fill up. On the other hand, they're going to be empty against Tulane at home. Additionally, we have Paul Brown Stadium for the Ohio State type games, so it makes even less sense to bring capacity that high.

They're taking the right steps now to add luxury suites and fix the concession and bathroom problems. In the future, if the support is there, and if the conference is right, they'll have the option of increasing capacity to that range if they need to.

That's why I was a bit surprised your AD didn't sound more positive about this conference and less like a butthurt fan. When it came time for the senior leaders on this team to step up he sure did not. I would hope He would be doing everything humanly possible to get your fan base excited to support your teams. He is right, Cincy is in a tight race with some other schools...Five year avg athletic revenues. UCF 42m, USF 41m, Memphis 40m, and Cincy @ 42m. If there is a slip here, you will be passed by. Avg football attendance...UCF 34k, USF 44k, Memphis 24k, and Cincy @ 29k. I know Mphs is excited and expect 30K+ this year. If you slip here, you will be passed. Now, on the field and on the court I hope your coaches and teams are ready because if you slip here, you will be passed. And we are all coming for you. Good luck.
