Email from new Big East: "important not to inflame college sports community by talk of further expansion - make that muted message"

Tweet is about 4 hrs old.
Conference TBA says that it's important not to spread rumors, and that's fallen on deaf ears. Or maybe they're taking back their stance on trying to keep things quiet.

That's what I see at least.

I thought it might mean that they are wanting further expansion but would rather the info didn't get out just yet.
I get "don't even talk about why we're not talking about it" out of it.
Are they asking McMurphy to stop writing about realignment because just writing about it destabilizes things? If that's the message, lol.
Tulsa is screwed
No that is from new Big East... It is aimed at SLU, Dayton, Richmond and VCU I think...
when McMurphy says New Big East, he's referring to the C7.

Exactly. This isnt even about the football schools, so everyone who has commented on it pretty much just looks foolish.......(lol...except maybe Wedge)

good point

I'm thinking SLU is screwed then, at least for the time being

possibly Dayton as well

Yeah, and all he did was turn around and blab out their request. Throw a bone a dog's way and expect him not to pounce. Since he's not with Fox that may not have been a smart move.

Then why doesn't the conference just come out with the plans and shut us all up? Invite the schools they want and give them one week to answer and move to the next on the list. This destabilization thing is a big batch of crap. None of these schools and conferences care about, or are scared of rumors. I think they like the spotlight...

Damn those stupid too-good-for-football mofos. All they've done is create confusion. I'm disappointed we didn't get to play Providence in the NIT. All of those schools are on my last nerve.

Only thing it means for sure is they aren't going to announce any adds in the middle of Marquette's run in the NCAA Tournament season. If the schools are from the A10, they could announce as late as June and still save $2m on A10 exit fees
Sounds like it may be something bigger than just adding another small basketball school. Such an addition really isn't going to inflame the college sports community as a whole.

They are applying for an NCAA autobid. Maybe they just dont want to rock the boat while that process is underway. Who knows...

I get so confused with the Big East talk. Is this the C7 we are talking about or the left behinds?
Well the only realignment stuff this guy has been talking about has been concerning the football schools, so I'm guessing he's referring to Aresco's camp.

Hmmm, doubt big wigs would care if anyone is inflamed if nothing is going on. So I would surmise that some very sensitive discussions are going on and certain persons do not want them to be disturbed by "outsiders".

It could also be that the conference is looking to have to take in some rather underwhelming additions and they do not want them to be insulted by what certain communities would have to say about it if they found out now.
