Now that they are FBS, who'd be in favor of a yearly game scheduled between us. We need at least two to even the score.
If I never see the triple option again, I won't be sad.
Absolutely. Yes. This should either be an annual or biennial contest. I'd also like to schedule App. State at some point. And if JMU gets to the Sunbelt, then them at some point as well. We may see the end of playing Hampton and Norfolk every year since I bet we'll be playing these guys fairly regularly.
Ummm I'm good. Until we beef up our defense, lets avoid the triple option as much as we can.
"I triple dog dare you". Says Georgia Southern.

I want closure on beating them. Yet, not until we get a defense that can read deception plays and learn to execute real tackling.
Oh hell yes. Maybe not annually but definitly start a series with them. I'm excited about the possibility of playing App too.

Not me, I'd rather not see them again.
As stated before by others, ODU should want no part with the triple option.
YGBSM!

If you want to be the best you have to play the best. We have scheduled Virginia Tech, North Carolina and now NC State, and now you guys say don't play GSU?

If we can't beat GSU, we should not have moved up to C-USA and FBS competition. Why the hades we would not take on GSU is beyond me. Recruit and coach our defense until we can take their triple option and stuff it where the sun don't shine. Then play them and kick their arse back to Georgia. This is football, not tiddly winks!

Even with a school suck in the the middle of some cotton fields in back a$$ Georgia, its a fun road trip. You can stay in Hilton Head or Savannah, tailgating is easy, and for the most part their fans are ok. Good time, but I hate the TO and we never saw it again till we play Navy that would be fine with me. Navy is a game we're working on and I would much rather have that game.
While I'd like to see us get revenge and I'm confident ODU would get it, I don't see the point in playing Georgia Southern. All OOC games should prep the squad for conference play and I'm not sure how a triple option offense does that. If they transition to more of a spread, sure. But until then, even if ODU wins, it's just a game with a higher chance of knee injuries to a unit that can't afford to lose bodies.
I know this goes against everything I believe, but we have little to gain and a lot to lose by playing them at the FBS level.
There's a chance for a knee injury every time they step on the field. I might be wrong, but I believe I am correct to say that we have played five games against teams running the triple option and have not lost a player to a knee injury in one of them. That's just a bogus argument IMHO.

The point of playing a team like GSU or App State is pretty straight forward. We want to schedule OOC games against a variety of competition levels, from BCS schools to new FBS schools like ourselves as we grow into this new competitive environment. Even down the road you can expect that we will schedule a FCS school like William and Mary or JMU (if they don't move to the SBC). In which case, you can expect us to schedule JMU as a new FBS school, just as we would GSU. I say bring 'em on!

We beat GSU what noise does it make, I respect them a great deal and this isn't a put down. But we beat an ACC team or nBE team, that generate more noise. We only have 4 OOC games per year and we need to make hay. GSU has played some of the top dogs like Bama and will likely have the same feelings about OOC games.

Again, I know I sound like a snob and this goes against everything I believe, but we do not want to equate ourselves to other FBS startups, we want to market ourselves as above that and be seen as equal to a Old BE program and try to move up from there. Unless it is out of scheduling necessity, I don't see any reason to play any other start ups OOC. If we want to play a triple option team, why not Georgia Tech, at least high level recruits in Atlanta will be paying attention? And again, the snobbery is really not a disrespect to GSU because the bottom line of the risk is the likelyhood they'll beat us.
No thanks. If we can bring in ACC teams into Foreman Field, I think we can do better, with closer opponents.

That's also the vibe I got from Selig's comments on this.
Different opinions. It's what makes the world go around, and I respect your right to your opinion.

However, we should never be "afraid" to schedule anybody, for any reason, because at that point we have already lost, and I detected fear in several of the posts against playing GSU.

If we don't play GSU because of those reasons we sound just like NCSU when they back out of our home game. Or even worse if we beat them they will never play us again. Their fans traveled well and were a pleasure to meet.
It is not at all unusual for FBS teams (including BCS teams) to shcedule one FCS OOC game just to give the team a breather. I don't think we will be an exception to that line of thinking, particularly when a home game against JMU or W&M would be a real crowd pleaser to a large number of Monach fans. A very reasonable OOC schedule would be:

@ BCS
BCS @ home
@ FCS (non-BCS)
FBS or FCS (non-BCS) @ home
We certainly do want to play BCS and established FBS teams and bring them to Norfolk abd I don't want to sacrifice that to play FCS and new FBS teams like ourselves but on the flip side we would like to be bowl eligible too. We've got much better odds at beating these teams and I think it should be a part of our diet. If the point comes where we're winning in C-USA with enough frequency that this isn't such an issue then yes I say we try schedule up more.

All rationale thoughts aside I'd really like to kick GaSo's teeth in and I'm not afraid of them at all.
