Well it was sure fun while it lasted, but obviously it had to end or the program would have been terminated. I guess only folks, like us, who were very involved with the program knew how bad it really was (how many friends did you hit up for tickets so the program wouldn't shut down?). It was all fun and games to everyone else. I like having an AD who runs the program in a fiscally responsible and ethical manner. I can actually enjoy the games without worrying about whether or not we'll have a program next year.

I don't believe you could get Mickey or Jim to say a cross word about Shields if he robbed a bank. I thought for about two days after that Florida ass kicking trip that Mickey was actually going to join the movement for a new coach, but after about two days he was once again back as the head of the Shields Fan club.
I am over him but he has 2 years left and he will get to coach them out.
I am pulling for him/ualr and hope we do some winning but i think we are headed to 17 d1 wins and a 10 or a 01.
So two years from now we will have seen steve's best class graduate and hopefully he will get a better job or the ad will do his job of seeing that the program produces a winner.

I just live in reality. I'm a fan, not an AD. I'll be there whoever the coach is. 3 or 4 folks on a message board aren't going to change anything regardless. But, obviously I understand the carthartic value of letting your feelings out on a message board.
I had plenty of cross words for Steve over the Stevie Moore situation and believed it cost us a postseason bid. I don't agree with everything he does, but certainly feel he has been a good coach for our program and will be for the foreseeable future. As a fan, I'll support him as long as he's our coach.
In all fairness, MJS is like someone who grew up in the depression. He can recall when the program nearly went under, like the depressionites who develop a certain frugality in their lives because of the times in which they were raised so he is just thankful for the little things, like the program existing, while people not raised in that era are less likely to be frugal and expect more of life. I was born during the depression, but was too young to really know anything about it.
I became part of our program due to the situation that existed, and MJS sold me my first season ticket to help the program from tanking. So I don't believe MJS or Yconpirt are as caught up with the coaching situation as some others on the board, and appreciate Chris for his fiscal management that keeps the program afloat. Obviously we don't all agree with every single thing that applies to the program, but we also don't know the finances involved and what it actually takes to keep things running. Whatever the direction our program goes, I'm thankful for having a D1 program I can watch in Little Rock. I would, however, like it to become more successful on the win-loss side of things.

I think myself, Yncopirt, and RBL would like that as well. But, don't see how bitching on a message board, about our coach and AD, can be viewed as something that will make our program better.

You guys would be happy with a intramural NAIA team that you could go root for. Obviously having a highly successful program isn't a on your lists of wants. And Doc, I can't tell from reading one post until the next how you stand. I can respect the way some you guys feel about this situation too, but sure as hell can't understand why, because this program sure hasn't been anything to write home about lately.
There's a difference between "fiscally responsible" and MISERLY. Chris spends NOTHING on the program. Look at the production value of the coaches show if you don't believe me. Guaranteed Chris has stored away mountains of cash. Where it goes? Who knows. But it sure isn't going to promoting our program or making it better.

Where are those mountains of cash coming from? Certainly not from ticket sales. Not from the State treasury, since UALR gets less State money than any team in the league. I wish we had "mountains of cash"- Chris is able adequately fund an entire athletic program, despite mostly apathy from much of the city, but I doubt he has much, if anything, left at the end of the year.

You are certainly moving beyond my area of expertise. But, while Chris keeps our program in the black, I don't there is much room for error there and he uses close to every last dollar by the time the fiscal year is over.
I wonder if that's foi info we can be privy to. Any money we bring in clearly doesn't go to promoting our program. We clearly can all agree on that. Given that he doesn't spend any money on the men, it doesn't take a finance major to see that any and all money he makes after bills, he saves. I would bet dollars to donuts he's saved up a ton of money over the years.
