Georgetown will probably win tonight against Florida Gulf Coast but they have to be absolutely sick to their stomach of him flaming out in the early rounds to teams (and non-majors) whose seeding is almost if not more than 10 seeds lower than them.

Will he get fired if this continues (very much making the big assumption G'Town loses tonight)?
He does have a Final Four to his credit.
And a ton of first or second round exits since then. LSU's coach from 2006 sure didn't get much of a grace period after his FF run, granted they fell off the face of the earth shortly thereafter.
I've never seen Florida Gulf Coast play this year but they are something else. That is one hungry squad right there.

Because he does things like win regular season championships. He wins in the regular season. Why would you get rid of him? Whats more likely, getting a coach who wins elite 8's and final fours or a coach who does the same or worse?

And who exactly is going to take the Georgetown job under those conditions? If going to a Final Four and regularly making the Tournament isn't enough for Big John Thompson's son to keep the job, what's it going to take for, say, Tom Izzo or Doc Rivers to keep the job?
The thing is, Georgetown not only loses these games but they routinely get blown out. They may come back (59-47 with around 6:00 remaining) but this has to be humiliating and perhaps it can be said he doesn't get his players up for these unhearlded schools.

But who do they get who is better?
59-47 with 4:46 left.

Not impossible to come back from that, but getting close to it

They shouldn't fire JT III now but if this trend goes on for another few years, it wouldn't hurt to try and go in a new direction.
Hoyas draining the 3s, but is there enough time?
Nope.
That sucks, Gulf Coast wanted this bad, played hungry the entire game. Outside of Duke, I don't think I've seen a team of white guys who could dunk with ease.
As a Cuse fan...I enjoyed that despite my bracket getting destroyed...but seriously...Thompson is a decent coach...but he is untouchable until Daddy is in the nursing home or worse.

certainly would have helped tonight:

But lol, no.
home court advantage definitely makes a huge difference...

but yeah, unless JT is out of the picture, JT III is here as long as he wants to be here. considering he's only 47, he's not going anywhere for a LONG time!
Yeah, not trying to rub it in. Tough loss for a good team.

Do you think it's just a matter of looking past these squads? Style? Just a string of bad luck? Hard to figure out.
That was some good street ball by FGC.
