The MAC sucks. Toledo should have left years ago. Go to a better league. All of our major sport teams would benefit from the move. Attendance would increase, fan base would increase along with revenue. Teams that would not play us, because we were in the MAC, would be forced to play us. Expenses would go up, but, so would revenue. We don't need the MAC, they need us. Time for the university to get off square one. GO ROCKETS.

Like someone else posted (I forget who), what other conference(s) are an option? PAC12, P1G, Big12, ACC, SEC are out of the question. MWC is way too far. SBC and CUSA are unstable/even with the MAC. nBE is unstable. So where would we go? Oh, yea, we also would need an INVITATION to another conference. We can't just say, "Hey, we're joining your conference!"

Couple thoughts:

1. Not sure what the A10 Conference is gonna look like in the near future, but for basketball that seems to be a much more highly regarded "mid-major" than the MAC--both for men's & women's teams. I think they will be losing some teams to conference moves--Xavier to the "Catholic Big East", maybe Dayton and one or two others? Too bad UT couldn't pull a "Temple" or "UMass" and stay in the MAC for football only, or even football & all other sports besides basketball, and move basketball to the A10? For football, I do think the MAC--perhaps expanded appropriately--is still a good fit for us...better than the Sun Belt and C-USA (and we aren't gonna get invites to the "new" or "old" Big Easts...).

2. Otherwise, do what the Big East did...implode & re-build. If UT, Northern Illinois & Ohio U (maybe even a couple other current MAC members) were to band together with similar strong programs from C-USA and the Sun Belt, you might be able to build a new conference that has a stronger football AND basketball presence than either the current MAC, C-USA or Sun Belt conferences. If you get the best 2 or 3 football programs from each of those and add in the best 2 or 3 basketball programs from each (which in certain cases will be the same schools, but more likely different).

When the MAC gets sick of Toledo embarrassing it, they'll kick us out. At that time we can aggressively market ourselves to other conferences. Seriously though, we obviously need to be invited and we won't be if we don't make ourselves as attractive as possible. As for unstable conferences, I wouldn't necessarily let that dissuade me from joining a new conference. Toledo had an opportunity (an invite) to join the Metro conference. Part of the reason we didn't was because at that time the MAC was headquartered in Toledo and we felt we owed it some loyalty. The other part of the reason was because the Metro was unstable. The conference did eventually split, but Toledo probably would've joined UCinn and Louisville in founding the Great Midwest, which eventually became ConfUSA. Maybe we would've eventually gotten into the Big East or maybe we'd still be in ConfUSA, but if we were, that conference would probably look much different.
