It sounds like the biggest difference between Rice and Oregon is that they had more people at the games. The few folks we had supported AK wonderfully (well most of them allegedly).
I guess another difference is that Oregon had a better team and is in the NCAA tournament. And that to get AK, they bumped someone off their scholarship to create a roster opening. That's something Rice wouldn't do.

Even though the comment in the article is very carefully worded, I fear that a Pacific Northwest audience may be all to ready to believe that Kazemi and Oraby must have faced a continuous climate of hostility from a broad swath Rice fans and the Houston public -- after all, Rice is in Texas, and everyone "knows" what Texas is like.
Anyone know what university his degree will be from?
I would think that he would have enough Rice credits to graduate with a Ruce degree, and probably not enough Oregon credits to graduate from there...

Rice used to require graduating students to complete their senior years at Rice. Looks like the requirements are a bit more specific now (from the Registrar's Site):

I guess it depends on what he was missing when he transferred.

The requirement to finish your degree at Rice is no more. A good friend of mine finished his degree up at NC State and still got the ol' sheepskin from Rice.

I suspect he will get enough NCAA credits to qualify for graduation, even if they don't make it to the Elite 8.
Have we ever gotten the full story on why he left? I see claims of racial discrimination that are refuted by Rice, but what's the story here? Did he just use that as an excuse to transfer to a bigger program?
(sorry I haven't followed this whole basketball debacle closely)

Speaking of all this, why in the hell is Greenspan still employed at Rice?
He was here 3 years before he left.
The coach who recruited him here was fired.
He was constantly being recruited by major programs, even while here.
When Sinisi and Aardsma and Crowder transferred here for better opportunity there were no rules requiring a 'hardship' excuse to avoid having to sit out for a year.
The legal term discrimination has a definition, at least in the workplace. Do you think maybe if there was a pervasive atmosphere there wouldn't be more discussion on this? Or if there was anything close to the legal definition?
Yes, surely we would all hear if there was a major discrimination/harassment issue in athletics...
Please remember, the wording in the Rice press release seemed very carefully calibrated to seem to refute things across the board without really doing so. They were denying something, but the words used really didn't cut off all possibilities.
At least, that's how I remember it.
And again, probably best to just let it lie. Clearly, the administration and board has, whether some of us believe it to be the right decision or not.

Good question. The Chronicle Sports section today is all UH. Coog men's basketball hosting Texas tonight in the post-season. Rice men's basketball with a lot of heart and not much else. UH baseball hosting (and beating) Texas while we are in a scheduling stalemate. Coogs in a new conference as one of the A Teams, no buzz around us. Coogs building a new football stadium, but we can't raise funds for improvements announced a year ago.
Each day I come here, and open the Chronicle, hoping to read a retirement announcement for Rick Greenspan.

You're considering Seventeen to be a reputable source for accuracy? He didn't set a school record for assists last year either (it might have been one for freshmen but that would have been it).
No matter who was AD, and no matter what Rice was accomplishing, it wouldn't get much Chronicle coverage.
UH wasn't able to pay for their stadium with fundraising. They are paying for it with an increase in the student athletic fees. I, for one, would prefer that Rice not use such methods.

Not necessarily true. If our AD actually communicated and we were consistent in FB and MBB, I think our press presence would increase significantly.

UH students voted for the increase, so that makes it somewhat acceptable, IMO. Personally would not like Rice to do this either.
