Much of the article is about the Big East basketball schools, but the unnamed football side got some ink too. The most interesting portions revealed a few details about the conferences new TV future. And surprise, lol--it actually sounds like good news!

Meanwhile, the unnamed conference of football-playing schools already is looking to expand, with Tulsa a likely candidate. The league, which has not settled on the America 12 name, will keep its league office in Providence, and is poised to implement some of the most innovative and interaction telecasts in college football history.

The league already is working with concepts such as in-game interviews with assistant coaches and coordinators on the sidelines, outside the restricted team areas. National coaches caravans also are in play.

Although the new ESPN/ABC deal is not nearly as lucrative as the one left on the table about 18 months ago, many of the new members such as East Carolina, Tulane, Houston and SMU will have a chance to play on national TV in prime-time slots on Thursday and Friday nights, and noon and 3:30 on Saturdays, with the opportunity to earn the prized Saturday night slots.

Very interesting.

I think Tulsa would be a decent pickup.
Probably the closest thing to a positive article that's been written in months.
Any idea what "National coaches caravans also are in play" means?

Sad. We used to be a staple on Thursday nights and Saturdays in the 90s with our own ESPN contract.

ESPN in the 90's also wasn't what it is today

Sounds like our Pirate Armada which travels to most counties in NC.

That's kind of odd considering the number of ECU fans on here who've cursed the very idea of ECU playing on weeknights.

I think most were speaking to the Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday games.

Friday due to the cluster we got into with the NCHSAA in the 90's over playing a friday night game during high school season.

Yep, Tuesday and Wednesday are joke games and you nailed the Friday issue. I don't know if the NCHSAA would still try to pull that crap, but who knows it was an ECU hall of famer who lead the charge against us back then.

Many of the ones who complained spoke of the atmosphere, and how so many of the fans came from so far away, that it had to be Saturday games. Don't get me wrong, some brought up what you speak of, but many were speaking of the mere notion of ANY weeknight games on ANY day, Thursday included, and how they would not work for ECU.

I would disagree with their notion that Thursday night games dont work at ECU. Some of the most electric games I've ever attended at ECU were Thursday night games. Now if it were say Tulane at ECU on a Thursday, we might have a bigger problem.
Well, if we don't get the money, at least the exposure is good. Thank you Coog!

I don't love the idea of going to weeknight games. Friday is better than Thursday in my book, but I feel theres nothing like pulling up to the stadium at 8:00 am on a Saturday and spending the whole day dedicated to the game. I know the students love Thursday/Friday night games, but i guess I have outgrown that.

This is only my selfish outlook. As others have said if playing more Thurs/Fri games means ESPN will actually play us on their networks it is well worth the exposure.

UL used to play all types of weekday games for exposure on ESPN. At first, I was against it, but after a while, you realize just how much national exposure you get and how great it is for the team. Saturdays games are the best, but the weekday ones will increase your exposure immensely.
I agree from an exposure standpoint. I mean, if you're a die hard college football fan, and its the middle of the week, you need something to hold you over until Saturday. You're gonna watch that mid-week game. Hell, I've even watched those awful MAC games on Tuesday before. We would be seen by a lot of eyes.

I agree completely. If it is a good matchup - or even if it's just a good game with 2 teams from the MAC that I really don't care about. Good exposure either way. I remember walking away from one weekday game thinking that Bowling Green had cool unis and had a pretty good team.
In theory, we could schedule Rutgers, UofL, Boise, and SDSU OOC and then have schedules like we would have with the nBE...
