Creighton and St. Louis to join in 2014. No VCU. The Big East could possibly put its offices in NYC.

EDIT: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketba...ng-sources

New story from Brett McMurphy confirming Butler, Xavier, Creighton as new additions for 2013.
That's close to the line up I predicted a while back. I thought #14 would be a toss up between Dayton & Richmond. I thought Richmond might get in based on geography & academics and considering Dayton is so close to Xavier. That will be a good rivalry for the new league though.
That'll be a strong league. Happy to see the basketball teams getting out before the **** hits the fan next season.

I would have thought you'd prefer they leave the same time UL does. It would make for a better hoops schedule next year for your cards.
It looks like all the Xavier fans who were wishing doom and gloom upon Dayton can stuff a sock in it while the VCU spammers may finally get lost.
I guess St. Louis gets to be an outpost in the A-10 for a year.

Actually, I kinda feel what he's saying here. I personally would love for everyone to have left with us. However, that didn't look likely and once it appeared they were gone I started rooting for them hardcore. With exception to UC, UConn and USF, that conference does not deserve the Big East name, MSG or anything those schools have earned. I think its ridiculous that they're even asking for a split of the exit fee money. To me, they deserve to have their entrance fees waived and that's it.

I don't wish ill will on those schools but I surely am rooting for the C7 to come out on top. Of course it doesn't hurt that they come out in droves to bash UofL every chance they get. Especially when we were the school fighting for their inclusion...I'm lookin' at you Memphis...

Just curious.... who do you actually root for? I know it's not "football."
I think that those are great moves and the Big East is and will be a great Eastern/Midwest basketball league. I wish them well.
the Metro needs to add VCU now...... get to a solid 5-6 bid league

I agree. Wichita would go nicely with Tulsa coming in too.
I like the moves + pretty easy to jump to 14 with 2 eastern additions. VCU or Richmond, no need for both + X. THey would have to change the profile if they brought in a public school but one 1 or 2 out of 14 isn't a big deal. If you want to get complicated, bring in uconn if they can't get into the acc and try to sell the big 12 on football only invites to uconn and byu with espn's help assuming the big 12 is stuck at 10. I could even see byu in the new big east someday but they would need to jump to 16 with byu + 3 eastern school's. A more sensible move would bring in umass and vcu with umass sticking with the mac. Of course, the most likely outcome is they stick at 12 for awhile but VCU brings a big market and good hoops.

Richmond isn't exactly a big market

THIS. I'm at the point that I think having 2 non-FB members would be a great path fwd. We're out of options to build a better football conference (sans Tulsa & USM). We'd be very wise to be the best possible basketball conference.
It seems like a good league. I wonder how it will continue to keep its name in the spotlight from April to November, as there is the off season, and college football dominates Fall TV.

Yep I agree completely. The league needs to be a power conference in something, and since it's not going to be football lets go for basketball. With the MVC and A10 being gutted I could see those 2 being much more interested in this idea than they would have been even a few months ago.
When we renegotiate our tv contract in 2020, it may then be lucrative enough that we can pick off bball schools from the new BE as well.

We were chit on all fall during FB season, so not being mentioned is an upgrade for us.

Wait wait wait... Dayton is joining next year with Xavier???

/sarcasm
For a few years the new BIG EAST will be very good. After a while, however, the next generation will come to see it as largely irrelevant. Unless St. Johns does what it hasn't been able to do in 20 years (get relevant again), the Garden won't be all that "alive" in March.
