just got word that Georgia Southern will be invited. NMSU is on the short list with Liberty. Liberty is not getting a lot of support from the presidents though. I would like to be the first to say welcome aboard to App St and Georgia Southern.

Sweet. Thanks. Looking forward to being a Sun Belt member for many years!

Will be interesting to see if NMSU gets in.....there has been very interesting lobbying going on behind the scenes for their admission. My bet is they do even though they bring very little if anything to the table for the conference.
Yeah, if NMSU's poor football caused the conference to drop a spot in the rankings for payouts, that would not go over well. Schools would say they cost us $200k and a lot in travel.

They bring a good basketball program, good baseball, and they are NOT a moveup. All those are important for the conference.
Here's hoping it's true this time. I'm about ready to get off this roller coaster
What are the actual chances Liberty gets in?

I'm wondering why they are on the short list if there is resistance from the presidents.

They would make up the cost with NCAA credits in basketball.this isn't just about football.

I am curious about that as well.

They should at least get on board with silver dollars over their eyes to pay the fare.

We shouldn't be a refugee camp.

If you took all of the emotion about it being "Liberty" out of the equation they would be a better add for the conference there is no doubt that. They have a very large and vibrant fan base, not just regionally but around the nation and the school that is growing rapidly with an extremely large endowment. But again, can the current member institutions get over the "Liberty" factor that many people on this board have voiced time and again? I have my doubts.
I will wave the Sun Belt banner high if this all pans out! GATA EAGLES! HAIL SOUTHERN!

So Missouri State is off the radar? That makes me kinda sad, they were my choice for #3.

They are on the short list because they are comitted to joining FBS and will put forth the money to do so. They keep calling and putting up a good fight for why the should join. The presidents just feel safe with NMSU because they are ex members and are already FBS.

There is no "safe" in Conference Realignment.

Liberty has oodles of potential money and perhaps some national network experience that might be leveraged in a perfect world.

But then there is the other stuff you don't want.
Bye bye Sun Belt Basketball. Adding two good football programs but two bad basketball programs. I don't care who gets pissed at me saying this. They aren't even in the top 250 RPI. Facts are facts.

The understanding I get from those who I speak with in collegiate athletic administration is that there is concern from every conference with NMSU regarding the internal problems at the university......of which there are many. They recently had problems with a president who was only in that position for a very short time. Furthermore, if you look at how much money the athletic department has to take from the school's general fund to operate you would be concerned as well. To make the problem worse, the State of New Mexico has cut funding to their state institutions which makes it more difficult for the athletic department to seeking funding through the the school's general fund. This has all been out there and readily available to the general public.
