There are rumors that Belmont could move to the Missouri Valley as a replacement to Creighton... How freaking awesome would that be?
Where did you hear that? It couldn't get any better for a mid major.

Here is the story from USA Today!

The MVC is more of the kind of conf I was hoping we'd move to when we left the Asun. However, there is no denying the travel cost savings of the OVC, the local interest is clearly much better which is also reflected in the media coverage and attendance figures.

It is an intriguing thought though. I wonder how the distribution of monies is compared to the OVC especially when they frequently are a multi bid league. Most of their schools have significantly larger attendance figures which may also impact the competitive balance of the athletic departments.
hi Belmont fans, first congrats on winning the OVC title, do well in the NCAAs! What seed do you all expect to get?

Looking forward to having you in the MVC (if the rumors are true). Supposedly Denver has said "no" to an invite to the MVC. Their administration must have lost their minds.

If you want to join the conversation about MVC expansion, there is one ongoing at mvcfans.com as well as on every MVC team message board.
Belmont was just discussed on CBS as Creighton's replacement in the MVC. (During the MVC championship game)
Thanks, I think most of us are expecting an 11 or 12. I've seen as high as 8, but some of that is going to be determined by what happens in other tourny's this week.

Our AD also denied any interest in the MVC, but the timing of the announcement was difficult at best. I would personally be surprised if they decided to make the move. If this had happened while we were still in the Asun it's likely a whole different story.

Belmont has been near the top of my list for a replacement or expansion candidate. With our current TV deal, each school gets 400k I believe. As far as the NCAA shares go, I believe each unit is broken into 11 shares. The team that earned the unit gets two shares and everyone else gets one. It used to be that way and I don't recall it changing.

Some question your attendance numbers and see it as a red flag, but they also see your success and most have watched you play and feel you could be competitive in basketball. I think our average league attendance is around 6-7k but that's heavily skewed by the 17k that Creighton averages and the 10k that Wichita gets. I think our lower numbers are close to 4k by the teams that are struggling the most right now.

I also have no idea how your other sports would compete. We're a decent baseball conference and have some very good volleyball programs. T&F isn't bad as we have our share of AA's there. Women's basketball is ok. I think we have one at-large candidate this year.

I would also say be careful if you go over the the MVCFans board. It's been a cesspool that a lot of the quality posters from the team boards refuse to go to anymore. Not that there aren't good people still over there, but it's not the best run board and things can get ugly quick.

Best of luck to you in the Dance. You guys will be an extremely dangerous 11 or 12 seed. I think you're better than that for sure, but that's the way this thing works.
That explains some rumors on our end. Congratulations and it certainly would've been nice to be right there with you instead of having the doofus we've had in place.
.
We won't hear of any official invites until Creighton officially announces that they're leaving for the Big East.

I've seen others on the main board talk about travel issues. Do you feel that travel in The Valley would be an issue? I understand the OVC is tighter, but I'd think the increased money and exposure would outweigh that. But then again, I don't know as much about the finances and inner workings of your school. I'm sure your leadership will weigh everything and knows what's best for you guys in the long run.

Again, best of luck in the Dance.
i call dibbs,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

if you all go to the mvc, etsu gets your spot in the ovc
it'll be interesting to see what the MVC school presidents decide on expansion. I think it's a given Creighton is gone. What year they're gone? Who knows? Regardless, the MVC needs to expand as soon as it's announced Creighton is leaving. If CU waits until 2014 to leave, we still need to expand now, otherwise the A-10 may steal teams the MVC is considering.

Will the MVC stay with 10 team? Go to 12? More good questions.

Belmont is close to every MVC school except WSU, MSU, Drake, and UNI. So we'll have to see how their school presidents feel about adding a school all the way down in Nashville.

The C-7 stated they'll announce who will be joining them in 7-10 days, so the domino effect will be happening soon

Belmont would need 5 votes for them. WSU isn't going to be scared by any distance issues. I can't speak for the other three. And I hope we go to 12. That would also solve distance issues for some schools if we split into an E/W format.

03-idea

you know, etsu fans would gladly swap asun travel for mvc travel
Creighton is officially gone from the MVC

Butler and Xavier gone from the A-10, the dominos begin to fall, get ready Belmont fans.
While I certainly hope Belmont doesn't leave the OVC, if you go, I'd hope the conference adds NKU to fill the opening.
