"Notre Dame will not be part of the basketball conference, because the Irish will be allowed to leave for the ACC a year early, which could also affect Louisville, which is also scheduled to depart for the ACC in 2014.

By 2014, the new name conference–we still like something like the Big American Conference–will have Tulane and East Carolina as full time members, with Tulsa and Navy (football only) ready to join a year later

A new basketball conference tournament site will have to be found, with New York and New Jersey, Philadelphia or Memphis likely landing areas.

Forget the part about Notre Dame being part of the Catholic 7 for a year. A large segment of the Catholic 7 group really doesn’t want the Irish as a one and done participant.

And then it will be over. Both sides can move on with their athletic lives."
"we still like something like the Big American Conference"

I hope that's just what Blauds likes and not a name they're actually considering because that's worse than Conference USA.

Why? Maybe they can hire Captain America as their cheerleader. 03-lmfao
How about Conference-911? That title captures the history of this league.

9 CUSA Teams: Cincy, USF, UCF, ECU, Tulane, Mempis, Houston, SMU, plus one other unfortunate CUSA soul.

1 MAC: Temple

1 BIG EAST: UConn
Acquire the C-USA name. Let the existing C-USA revive the Metro brand.
Seriously, he says "Here's how it SHOULD be done" and you call that a source?

My gut tells me that UConn and Temple are working on something else. It's not a source, but it's how it SHOULD be done.

Huh?? Cincy and USF are not CUSA teams. They are current members of the Big East and have been as long as UConn has been a football member of the Big East...almost a decade.

If you want to go back far enough in history UCF and Cincinnati were once in the MAC. The whole analysis is just stupid.

Lol....I'd rather have the Metro name. CUSA is the name nobody wants to repeat. It was too gimmicky for the long haul. Frankly, Metro suffers from the same fault in my opinion. Conference names need to be simplistic, impart a sense of the conference identity, and seem old. C-USA misses on all 3. Metro misses on two out of three.
He should blog less and report more. His record suggests he might be better off just posting his thoughts here as a member......unless he already is. 05-stirthepot
How about the Eastern (whatever # of teams they end up with)?

That's a more viable name than Metro in my opinion (assuming we are dumb enough to sell the name we have).
Mid Sun Conference

In the East among the G5 it would be:

Conference USA
Mid American Conference
Mid Sun Conference
Sun Belt Conference

A nice way of standing out above the crowd.

Teams I would actually consider to be Eastern:
Navy
Temple
UConn
UCF
USF
ECU

Teams I would not call Eastern:
Houston
Memphis
SMU
Cincy
Tulsa
Tulane

Maybe Eastern & Western 12. Kind of sounds like a railroad.
If they name this league Big America I think I'm going to vomit.
If Notre Dame gets out early for the ACC Louisville should ask the NCAA if they could be exempt from the ruling of having one sport in another conference while that conference plays that sport. In Louisville defense they have a home in the ACC, but their football program for next year does not amongst the ACC, but if the NCAA would allow for one year where Louisville could move to the ACC and keep their football program in the new conference for one season then this is something that should be looked at. I really think if Louisville powers to be laid it out correctly to the powers to be amongst the NCAA they might have a shot of someone listening and siding to their plea of amnesty from oblivion of playing a lame duck season for all sports in the yet to be named new conference left overs of the Big East. Just curious what others think about this.

You won't be alone. There will be a run on vomit bags if Big America is the final name.

The NCAA doesn't care. That's a conference rule for all self-respecting conferences. When Boise State was coming to the Big East, the initial plan was to house their nonfootball sports in the WAC.

Louisville doesn't need to persuade the NCAA, it needs to persuade the ACC and the Aresco LEague.

I commented on his blog, asking if this was from sources or just him guessing. WE'll see.
