For all the folks whining and complianing about ESPN and midweek games, etc.
As one source at the Big East said on Saturday, “ESPN over matched the offer. The deal they offered in terms of exposure is better than the deal we have now in football. It was more than fair.”

That's why I said lets see the details if that's true then it makes more sense

As much as McMurphy is the ESPN one. But that doesn't seem to bother some.

agree. just different agendas

Interesting that Jersey guy said the BE will be 10 - 12 members. Does that indicate that a CCG is not a required part of the contract but rather optional?
$130 million for 7 years = $18.6 million per year for botn football and basketball.

10 Team Conference per school: $ 1.86 million

12 Team Conference per school: $1.55 million

This how I read it.
Well...perhaps its not all famine and pestilence....If its better than the current football deal then thats at least something.

I am curious about this as well. I really hope we did not allow ESPN to force us into a 12 team league.

Jersey Guy is still throwing around the 20-23 number, whech leads me to beleive that the deal adjusts to 23 to account for football only Navy and another (say Tulsa) to get to 12. Its a small difference, but with this deal--everything is small.
I Wonder if the deal allowed us to keep secondary rights to sell to another network

Plus CBS deal. I say stay at ten teams if possible.

Having a slant doesnt bother me in reporting--just as long as everyone knows the bias and the reporters dont try to claim they are unbiased observers printing the unvarnished truth.

That woul be $2 million per school in a 10 team conference. I would not go to 12 teams for less money. This is the 10 teams in my best estimate:

UConn
Temple
Cincinnati
Memphis
East Carolina
Central Florida
South Florida
Tulane
SMU
Houston.

Ussually a conference tends to leak out positive details via unnamed sources. Here, the only leak has been the money (bad) and that exposure is supposedly better than we currently have. I would think that as bad as the deal reflects on the conference--any positive such as additional earning ability or showcase exposure would be leaked. The fact there are no leaks of anything very exciting is probably a sign that we should temper expectations that there might be more. At least it offers a higher level of ESPN exposure than we currently enjoy--that is a significant positive development and will be be very helpful for us coming from CUSA. Recruits love to know they can be on ESPN.
