I knew this game was going to be tough, but how about a little effort. I guess we just quit on the season. AK quit this game when he decided to leave Allen and Barwin in the game for 5-6 straight minutes down the stretch. The players quit within the first few minutes.
I agree 100%. I think our guys figured that even though we're 5-5 in conference, have a chance to knock off a top 25 team on the road, and have a chance for a better way to get into the tournament, they decided, "HeY! Why don't we just quit?"
I think you guys are on crack. I saw no lack of effort today.

Then why were guys missing defensive assignments, and not fighting through screens. They just looked lackluster. I think the game was decided in the first 10 minutes when Pitt got physical with us and our guys tried getting physical back with them but the refs wouldnt let us.

I think you missed a heavy dose of sarcasm in my post.
The wide open 3's were annoying, I agree. But I still think they played hard. I also agree the refs had a VERY bad day.
I think the effort is there; it just becomes frustrating that we can't seem to make the big play or get the call when the game is close. Pittsburgh was real sloppy with the ball but we did not make them pay enough when we had opportunities. James White has not hit an outside shot in weeks and I think that is taking his head out of the game at times.

I guess it is necessary but I think Kennedy is trying to steal too many
minutes off the bench at critical times in the second half.

While I have been known to be sarcastic I was not trying to be here. I think they played hard. Heck, it's a long season and we are short on players. They get tired quickly. I love these guys and the effort they put out every game. I will never question their effort.
I didn't have a problem with the effort.

The biggest thing I noticed, which I think eventually impacted their spirit, was the number of times that we were somewhere between 6-10 points down, and we'd come up with a defensive play that gave us a chance to go down and get a quick basket, and we didn't convert. Then Pitt would quickly come back the other way and score.

There were a lot of those 4-5 point turnarounds that went against us, and it can't help but convince you at some point that it is not going to be your day.
I counted 6 fast break layups we missed and they turned around with a fast break on us...24 point swing.
Effort works both ways. When you are playing a team you know you have in the bag you don't put out max effort the whole game either. Pittsburgh had plenty of mental mistakes because they pretty much had the game under control all the way and would slack off after the lead built up. They showed Hicks limping off the court after the game. That guy gets beat to death every game. How long can he stand it? He finally went outside and shot a 3 ball so he could get a shot off. I'd say it would be hard for him to get up for a game knowing what he has to face. Don
A little bit no effort more like the Cats have less players.Add Herrera,Vince Banks and say a Roy Bright and this crap about effort is not a issue
Catswin, can you please hit a <CR> between your three sig pictures. It makes the screen way to wide. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Or he could just get rid of those pics.

I'll do no such thing.

gruehls

hmmm. pitts' 1st 2 baskets were on wide open shots at the backboard.

uc scored 2 baskets in the first 9 minutes.

uc forgot how to complete wide open fast breaks. all of them.

if you want to argue the "effort" was there, fine. then it was the "focus" that was missing. they came into this game expecting to lose, and they performed accordingly.

They need to imagine the name on their opponent's uniforms to say either "Louisville, Marquette, Depaul, or South Florida". Any team that played in the old CUSA they would probably beat. But if it's a big name Big East team, it's like they have a mental block or something.

I keep hearing on AK's postgame that Downey gets those big eyes and ends up playing like a freshman. Yikes. We can't have that.
