This is a good site for info, comparisons and true value. http://www.edmunds.com/

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have an Altima, love it.
I'm in the exact same boat. Buying in the spring and doing my research now.

The Hyundai Sonata was nice, the Mazda had zoom zoom, and the Altima has all around great. Also looked at a diesel Passat, which was cool but I don't drive far enough each day to really worry about MPG.

Subaru? Underpowered in my price range but AWD was a benefit up here in the snow. Camry? Nice but not my style. Kia Optima was too boy-racer. Malibu was a bit too stodgy.

I am leaning towards the Mazda, or maybe even the underpowered Subaru, because I enjoy having vehicles that are a little less popular.
Same here but going a different direction...looking at Volt, Ford Cmax and the Prius, im also considering 36 month lease.
Hyundai or Kia.. Warranties are amazing. Never thought I'd buy a Kia, but a handful of family members and friends did before me and all love them
Ford Fusion....buy from American companies.
ford fusion is ok. mazda is made in u.s.
Pinto Pacer. Good visibility. Low price.

Ford Fusion is made in Mexico. Ford Taurus is made in Chicago.
The Ford Fusion is a fantastic car. The new ones look like Aston Martins.....and its highly highly rated.

I have a 2002 Elantra. Very few problems(knock on wood) which is good since I don't have a lot to spend on repairs. Timing belt lasted until about 100,000 miles, original muffler(though my flex pipe needs to be replaced) and still using original spark plugs(I have 133,000 miles on it).

Yep Kia is amazing, bought an 05 Optima for my daughter 4 years ago (from a used dealer, it was still under 5/60 bumper to bumper warranty). It has over 115K on it and rides and handles like a dream.

Depending on how much room you need the Chevy Cruze has room for it's size and great mpg.
I've had a Mazda 6i for 7 years, 160k miles. It still has original muffler, struts, water pump, alternator, etc. I've only recently had to change the fuel pump (to be expected), front wheel bearings, and one of the half shafts. This car has NEVER been back to the dealer. I do most routine maintenance myself and let John Bockman in Sycamore do the larger jobs mentioned.

I went with the 4-banger because of the available engines, it was the only one not engineered by Ford. Sorry guys, I'm just not sold on American. My parents have bought a series of Dodges that had constant trouble including multiple wheel bearing replacements at low milage, and persistent suspension and brake issues. My buddy just bought a Chevy Cruze Eco and it needed a whole new transmission after just one year! That's insane. Yes, I know I have mostly Ford parts and it was probably assembled in Michigan, that's great, but give me a Japanese-engineered drivetrain any day.

Kia has gotten really sharp-looking in recent years too. Their latest head designer used to work for Audi.
BTW, I am taking a look at buying through Costco. Their program isn't the only one out there, but so far so good!

Leaning now towards a Mazda 3, or an Imprezza 5 door hatch.
