Lest I be wrong, The Akron Zips have a 15 game win streak, longest in the nation.

They did not look invincible yesterday in Miami.

The game should feature some TREMENDOUS individual match ups.

Zeke Marshall vs. Da'Shonte Riley - two centers who I think of as clones of each other (Zeke scores more but I think Riley would to if he were on the Zips).

"Tree" Treadwell vs Glenn Bryant - think these two will go head to head. Treadwell is one of the underrated big guys in the MAC. EMU tried to recruit him, but academics were a big issue and somehow Akron managed to get and keep him in school.

On their best days, I would not want to have to go up against Marshall and Treadwell nor would many MAC teams want to go up against Bryant and Riley.

Wonder how many NBA scouts will be present? Now that Riley is finding his groove, it will be a good chance for Marshall to go up against a skilled 7-foot defender.

If Marshall can't get it done offensively against Riley how does he do it in the NBA? (I believe Marshall will be a NBA draft choice this June).

I just hope that Bryant and Riley come out to play like this is a MAC tourney game and it is all on the line...
Before the WMU-BSU game I predicted Western beating the Cardinals by 20+. They ended up loosing so lets hope this works again.

I think EMU will get blown out. We have bad history with Akron. Last year they gave us 30 at their place and they are a better team this year while we are pretty much the same (or arguably lower level). Zeke will manhandle Riley just like he did last year. I like watching this match up because they are both mentally soft even though I think Zeke has gotten better in this department since his Freshman year. The biggest key will be their PG Abreu. He will have a field day with Harper, Sims and Ross. That kid is QUICK, I love his game. Oh and Treadwell is a better version of Bryant. Can't jump as high but he could bench press Glenn.

To sum it up they are better at each position. It would be a great upset to come away with a win. Let's hope my prediction backfires on me :)

If there is a match up game on our schedule this season it is this game.

I doubt Marshall will man handle Riley this year. I'm guessing that fouls and how they are called will greatly affect this match-up. If Riley is 50% better than he was in December we'll see Wednesday night. Remember on Riley, he played limited minutes his first year at 'Cuse, sat out the next season with a foot (?) injury, then played one semester last year and 20+ games this year. Riley is still pretty green as a collegiate athlete. This is his 4th year out of h.s. but he has played only 2+ years (and his first year at 'Cuse was an 'apprentice' type season). He has a lot of room to improve.

Bryant vs. Tree - again if Bryant doesn't get foul issues he could come out like a warrior. Bet he'll be psyched. This match up alone will be worth the price of admission.

PG could be a wipe out again. Against UT, Ross and Harper combined for 3 assists and 9 turnovers. 04-chairshot 04-chairshot 04-chairshot

The ratio was 1:3. Shouldn't ratios of assists:turnovers be 2: 1 ?
I don't see Zeke Marshall getting drafted. He is way too soft to play in the NBA. As for Riley, we're talking about a 7 footer who averages 3.7 ppg in a conference which has very few, if any decent big men. That's hard to do. I agree with Realist, Marshall should own him again and I can see Riley getting into early foul trouble while having his typical ho-hum, low energy game... Keith Dambrot: big coaching advantage over the Murph. Akron by 12.

Worth mentioning, Dan Dackich listed Akron yesterday as a team that could make a run in the NCAA tournament.

Maybe late second round? Kinda like Keith Benson who is now at GS. From what I remember Zeke started playing ball at latter age. I think 1 or 2 years in the D-League and he might just find a place on NBA roster. Definitely not a guy who can come in right away and contribute. But a footer is a footer. Can't teach height and length. Plus Zeke is also a very skilled player. If he gets his head right he will be a good one.

I agree with you on Riley. Besides his soft mentality he has every tool to be in the NBA one day. He was even gifted with great size, athleticism and length. Still I would expect him by now to have similar numbers to Zeke considering he is playing in the West.

He reminds me of Keith Benson, except I think Benson was better offensively as a senior. Benson was a second rounder and he didn't make it, which makes me think that Marshall will probably be playing overseas instead of the Association. We'll see. I'll be watching him closely on Wednesday to see where his game is at now.

Benson was definately more offensively minded. Keith was also soft though. I still don't think he is actually 6'11", more like 6'9" - 6'10". Zeke on the other hand is a legit footer. Nice jumper, nice set of post moves. Way better defender than Benson too and arguably a little tougher conference with tougher players to play against. He can play in Europe for sure and make great money, but if he buckles down in the D-League for a little I can see this kid playing in the NBA. Same goes for Riley if he gets his crap together.
BTW, here are the stats for Zeke Marshall. Unlike Riley, Zeke has played a straight 4 years uninterrupted by medical redshirt or transfer (Riley sat out 2 semesters at 'Cuse + 1 at EMU before being declared eligible).

Zeke has made steady improvement over his career.

...which in no way explains why Riley averaged 4.1 ppg last year and 3.7 ppg so far this year. Not really the improvement EMU fans were hoping for, especially since he is always the biggest guy on the floor each game.
