Average of 247, Rivals & Scout. For all the schools except Navy:

USF 55.7
Houston 56.3
Cincy 59.3
UConn 64
SMU 68.7
ECU 79
UCF 80
Temple 85.3
Tulane 88
Memphis 90.3
Our numbers aren't fantastic...but I'm pleased with the class. Obviously, I'd like our ranking to be a bit higher, but when you're coming off of 9 wins in 4 years...you're not going to scorch the recruiting trails.

That being said, we addressed needs, filled a few gaps with JUCO's, and added some serious speed.
I would like to add that UCF's class consists of 18 recruits and 1 transfer (that isn't accounted in any recruiting site).

Our ranking is to be expected considering we have about 6 to 7 less recruits than anyone else. Though, I guess the sanctions are a big part of that.
People should not get too wrapped up with these rankings. They really don't mean much in the long run.

Take this year for example -- below is the NFL combine invitees for this year -- look at how many are coming from the BE. I am pretty sure UCONN had the lowest rated classes during all those years. One of our guys Wilson is projected to be a top 25 pick in the first round and he was a 2 star or no star recruit.

Below is taken from the UCONN site:

Quote:http://www.nfl.com/combine/participants?...rticipants

Good showing by the Huskies with the following participants:

1. Dwayne Gratz, CB
2. Sio Moore, LB
3. Trevardo Williams, DE
4. Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB

Rutgers leads the way in the Big East with 6 invitees. Syracuse, Cincinnati and UConn all with four.

Some teams that stood out:
1. LSU leading the way with 13 invitees
2. Florida State close behind with 12 (talk about underachieving)
3. Georgia has 11 invitees
4. Alabama and Florida both have 10 invitees

And not so much:
1. Pitt and Louisville with only 1 invite each. Great sign of things to come for Louisville. Another top recruiting flop for Pitt.
2. UConn with more invites than Texas (3), Michigan (1), Oklahoma St. (3), Miami (2), Maryland (1), Iowa (2), Georgia Tech (2), Clemson (3), Baylor (2) and Auburn (3)

Make no mistake about it, kids that are deciding on schools all think they are going to the NFL. We need to throw numbers like the above out to every recruit that will listen. UConn, with 12/13 active NFL players and another four at the combine is quickly becoming an impressive pipeline amongst its' peers.
We're limited to 20 new scholarships per season, and have reductions in recruiting time & visits so we can't waste time on long shot recruits. We can expect a similarly low ranked class next year, which is the final year of recruiting restrictions.
What I love about our recruiting class we kept 6 CT kids home. We got 5 out of top 10. Here is a great article on this:

UC DL coach named Big East Recruiter of the year by Scout/FOX

Big East: Robert Prunty, Cincinnati
Prunty didn’t have a lot of time after joining the staff in December, but he went to work quickly and did a great job in getting talent out of Virginia. He got tight end Chris Burton out of Danville, Va., and used his ties as a former Hargrave Military Academy coach to get four-star cornerback Mike Tyson. Prunty also landed four-star junior college outside linebacker Jerrell Jordan and junior defensive end Terrell Hartsfield.

Hm... looks like Temple is going to need to talk about their newest recruit, Teddy Atlas
Hold the phone guys. UCF may be adding to our class with the #2 Fullback in the nation. This article says the battle for him is between USF and UCF, with UCF getting the edge.

This could really boost our class, in more ways than one. A FB / HB option between this fullback and Mario Mathis could fill potential holes elsewhere, and both athletes appear to be skilled.

Before you get to excited realize that LSU and Florida backed off because they didn't think he would qualify, so both USF and UCF are hoping he makes it. So even if we or you sign him, he may not make it.

Correct, also with Rivals and other site, one must remember they run recruiting services for school that pay for them and that leads to under ranking of classes for school that don't use one. ECU uses ESPN and Scout, but not Rivals. It's no wonder that year in and year out ECU ranks higher with ESPN and Scout than we do with Rivals. Rivals just don't spend as much time on us, partly due to the fact we don't pay for their recruiting service.

ECU ranks like this, ESPN 65, 247sports 74, scout 70, Rivals...........................................................wait for it .................................................................94.

I heard we got a QB (Boyle) who had offers from Florida and Pitt.

Great news if true.

Update ...... it looks like he had committed to BC, but he ended up with UConn. I couldn't confirm that he had offers from Florida or Pitt.
cincy kicked butt considering we lost a ton after Lyle bolted for Tn.

I'm happy with this class all things considered....

I think most of the scouting services have placed our recruiting in the 50's. I am flat out amazed at the way Tubberville has put together a recruiting class. He was able to put together this class eventhough every Jones recruit except three went in a different dirrection.

It happens, we lost our RB to Tenn. in the las few day leading up to national signing day. But, picked up what looks to be a solid JUCO RB

Yes. Boyle was UCONN's top target for QB. He committed to BC early but flipped to UCONN. Our QB coach Shane Day (used to Chicago Bear's QB coach) said he evaluated 60 QBs and had Boyle #1 on the board. So, when the kid became available, UCONN took him. Boyle has offers from Florida, Pitt, Cuse, BC, UMASS, and UCONN. As a result, we might lose our other QB recruit Richard Laglow. He is a 3 stars recruit out of Texas and he still hasn't signed his LOI. UCONN took another dual threat QB out of GA so I am not sure what will happen to Richard. I hope Laglow signs with UCONN still.

Most of the class this year all have multiple BCS offers. We took multiple kids from PA with Pitt and PSU offers. On paper it looks good. The best thing is UCONN kept 6 CT kids home. That's something Edsall never did and hopefully it will work out for UCONN down the road.
I was resigned to this being a rough class starting from scratch on such short notice. Tubbervillle and staff did a hell of a job, though. Even held onto several scholarships for next year with an entire recruiting cycle to work with.

Most of Jones' old recruits ended up at MAC schools. This class ended up far better than what we would have had without the coaching change. Amazing.

I hope we keep Laglow. He's from a few miles away from me. He played at the highest level of Texas high school FB.

We also have a promising redshirt QB. For the first time since 2004, we'll be above average at that position.

I hope Laglow will come as well. If he does, we will have Cochran, Taylor, Laglow, and Boyle as QBs of the future. I expect Taylor to change positions at some point. For the first time ever, UCONN might actually be loaded at the QB position.
Here is another breakdown on why recruiting rankings mean jack sometimes.

One way to measure real talent is by the number of players drafted out of each school. While NFL draft is not perfect, but a lot more are at stake because of money involved vs. recruiting sites that are trying to get money out of fans' pockets.

A poster on the UCONN board did an analysis on NFL draft picks for BCS programs. Please keep in mind UCONN regularly had the lowest ranked recruiting classes in the BE during all those years. We were ranked regularly in the 70s and 80s. This is year we are sending 4 to the NFL combine, second in the BE next to RU's 6 and far more than many schools with more history.

Below is number of UCONN draft picks vs. all other BCS schools.

Quote:Now that recruiting is over, I think it is more important to look at how many players from each school gets drafted into the NFL as this is a measure of recruiting and player development. It is my contention that Northeastern football players are not as fully developed as other areas of the country and develop in college.

Here is a look at NFL draft picks from 2007 to 2012 from all BCS conferences, with UConn included to see where we stand. (Why 2007 to 2012? This is the real time frame that UConn was in and recruited at a BCS level, or 2004 freshman.)
