lThe UAB factor: Howard Schnellenberger used to talk about "putting a fence around Miami" when he built the U. during the ascent of Hurricane football almost 30 years ago. That's what Garrick McGee must construct around Birmingham if his Blazers are to reach their peak.

UAB lost a few local verbal commitments late last month or it could have had about a quarter of the 42 expected Division I guys who will sign on Wednesday. That said, the Blazers will still have about seven of those 42 area signees.

Those defections serve as a rallying cry for improved facilities if McGee is to ever win big. Maximizing UAB's potential looks like at least a two-step plan:

1) Own the Birmingham kids not going to SEC schools

2) Make sure you have the facilities to keep them there once they've committed.
We need an OCS to be competitive and the BOT know about it .

O mais oui, mon frere, beware... There are those about that will accuse our non OCS complaint that it is hurting our recruiting, as "self-loathing."
