DETROIT -- A Detroit-area businessman has pleaded guilty to conspiracy in a point-shaving investigation involving football and basketball at the University of Toledo from 2004-06.

Mitchell "Ed" Karam also pleaded guilty to conspiring to fix horse races at Tampa Bay Downs in Florida and Delaware Downs in Delaware in 2005 and 2006. His guilty plea also covers a fraud charge in a separate real estate investigation.

Karam's plea Monday in Detroit federal court comes nearly four years after he was indicted in the Toledo probe along with another Detroit businessman, Ghazi "Gary" Manni.

The government says they paid players to get inside information or affect performance while placing bets on the Rockets. At least four former Toledo athletes have pleaded guilty. Prosecutors say Karam and Manni bet approximately $331,000 on basketball games.

This is fun, while we are on topic of cheating, are NIU employees still selling property of the university and keeping the money for themselves? Plus we can concentrate on you guys while you concentrate on us.

Never did. They use the money for coffee.
Remember that one time Toledo used to beat NIU all the time? That was cute.

Hey now, lets be easy on our Huskie friends. Their mens basketball team attendance for the entire year will match that of one or two of our womens basketball games.

But we do consistently draw more fans than Toledo MAC football championships of the last decade.

I'll admit, that's setting the bar a little low, but work with me.03-nutkick

Just barely. 03-wink

Oh, no, no, no. You misunderstood me. I meant we are trying to draw more fans than Toledo championships of the last decade.... which would be one. We've blown that number out of the water at every game this season.

Oh, gotcha. Damn, you're right. You got us beat on that one. 03-weeping
Toledo is a lot closer to Detroit so you should draw more fans for games at Ford Field...Isn't it a day trip from today?

And if Rocket fans are so loyal how come virtually none show up in DeKalb for important games with NIU?

Because midweek games suck for fans that have to travel more than a couple hours. I would love to see the UT-NIU games played on Saturdays and in October instead of November.
Nothing WEAKER in the world than attendance smack.
