Steven Adams, Pitt's outstanding freshman center, shoots an abysmal 35.3% from the FT line, slightly better than Michael's 33.3%. The difference is that Adams shoots 59.1% from the field and leads a very good rebounding team with 6.3 boards/game.
The amazing thing about Mike is that one stretch saw him hit five in a row. Then he went back to his bad FT shooting. I think all of us want the young man to succeed at the highest level. And he's obviously doing something that the coaches like or he wouldn't be playing as many minutes as he's playing. I think now that Gus is healthier, they'll be more judicious in their use of Mike. He is one of the best shot blockers we've had, and that's his saving grace. And he probably causes people to alter their shots. So he has a place on the team. And maybe with patience, he'll improve in those areas we've talked about. Several games it's looked like he's going to break out, but it hasn't really happened yet. But remember he's only a sophomore. He has this season and two more to get stronger and improve upon his weaknesses.
