If we can get a sf, first round pick and ed davis out of the deal i'd be excited.
i thought the last trade was gay...
Love that Pera!

I said the Grizzlies should trade Rudy back on his rookie deal. I thought the Grizzlies should trade him to Washington for Caron Butler and the draft pick they ended up trading to Minnesota for Mike Miller and Randy Foye. Back then, I wanted the Grizzlies to trade Tyreke to replace Gay.

It is a shame that we are going to trade Rudy and not get size, shooting, and/or defense at the 3 spot. It's what doomed us against the Thunder, and it's whats going to keep us from being in contention this year.

Given the last deal, we'll probably give a first rounder to get rid of Rudy.

Completely different. I'm baffled by the people that still don't understand the first deal.

Seriously?

I understand the deal, just like I understood the Sam Young dump, and the Hasheem Thabeet dump, and the Pau Gasol dump.

But you know the rules to the salary dump?

Giving away lottery picks in the salary dump is always a bad idea.

Ask the Clippers.

Chris Paul might be the best point guard in the NBA now. Kyrie Irving might become the best point guard over the next 15 years.

Rob

You realize we didn't trade the top overall pick, right?

But we might have traded the #6 pick.

Afterall, Stu Jackson had no idea he were trading Carmelo Anthony just to get Otis Thorpe.

The Cavs basically bought a lottery pick for $6 million. But given when it's likely to be given to the Cavs when the Grizzlies might not have Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol, just the time that draft picks will be vital to the franchise.

It was a really bad move considering the players Cleveland got aren't going to be long term. In the case of Mo Speights, he's probably opting out to get more money in the off-season.

Rob

It could also be the 28th pick, in which case it likely wouldn't matter. Hopefully we're not in the lottery anytime soon.

This.

If we are in the lottery in the next 2-3 seasons then we have a lot more to worry about than trading this pick

It'll only be a non-lottery pick if the Grizzlies are a playoff team or really really bad over the next five or six years.

Given we don't have any young developing superstars, I would be concerned about the continuing drafting failures (obviously Tony Wroten could become something special, but I've been predicting he was just intended to be Tony Allen's replacement from the moment he was drafted).

Zach is 32 this year and Marc is only locked in for two more years.

Basically, in two or three years, the Grizzlies will probably be a lottery team if Gasol departs and we don't add some significant talent.

Our window is now. That's what makes trading all of those pieces so disappointing and why I called it a white flag trade.

The Grizz weren't likely to win the title, but it wasn't out of the realm of possibility.

But if you trade Rudy, and the only think you get back is Ed Davis, you are deficient at the small forward and shooting guard positions, and you have shooting in the form of Mike Conley.

So no depth and your star is injury prone.

Thanks Robert Pera!

Going online now: ESPN sources say Grizzlies and Raps have deal in place to swap Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi for Ed Davis and Jose Calderon
Stein says its Gay and Haddadi for Davis and Calderon...

That would be a joke.

Added note, Griz could trade Calderon to Pistons for Prince or Maggette. Would make it a little better.

Still disappointing if you get no picks.

I like Davis..probably a better version of DA? But we don't really have a true wing then? Damn?

With Calderon on the team, does Conley become the backup PG? ;-)

I hope Wroten still gets playing time...we need him to develop.

Third team not yet in stone but Pistons have had interest in Calderon all season & have two SFs to help MEM fill Gay void: Prince & Maggette
