In the aftermath of one of best days in years around the ETSU community and the whole Tri-Cities community, WHY, WHY do they keep showing the two wallflowers interviewed at the Culp center knocking back their $5 moo-late frappucinos who are against football ?!!! The ones who are saying they cant afford the $125 activity fee that may come with the football program being revived from the ashes of Stanton-Mullins, that it would keep them from paying rent or buying groceries for crying out loud!

Here's a suggestion for you WJHL. How about interviewing a few of the students who are extremely excited about the prospects of pigskins return! Damn it WJHL is this the best you can do? Come on Marler see if you can talk some sense into the powers that be at CH 11 to get the positive vibes out there that truly are the feelings of most all the students I've talked to.

And to the 2 young ladies who were on this morning it seemed every 5 minutes, appearantly giddy at the prospect of getting to voice their displeasure about the turn of events because they wont be able to buy their groceries, how about laying off the third cup of cappucino and putting that money you will save towards your food cost. You would be suprised at how fast that would add up.
+1
Because the local media is as against etsu football as the national media is for barrack.
For real. People talk like they actually care about theirs or others people's well being and finances. I don't know if anyone remembers the Burger King that used to be on campus but campus ended up not renewing their contract in favor of a sushi bar that sold $5 rolls. I could get a Jr. at Burger King for a Buck and about a thousand people did the same thing everyday after class. Tell me just how much they were concerned about students money then? Same goes for the Starbucks
The arts crowd probably got P.O'ed because the line constantly stretched well in front of their building. Well we brought back football.. In the spirite of this site I say we rally to bring back BK. lol. Jk
The arts people are going bat sh*t crazy over this. I love it!
$5 a week is going to keep you from paying rent???? That is 1 cup of starbucks.. these crybaby hipsters probably drink 4 cups a day while they study for their meaningless art history degree.
Remember, ETSU has students living in cars. At least according to one of those senators speaking yesterday! Did anyone else catch that?

I think that is a bit of an exaggeration. I was poor when I was a student, I had to take out student loans to survive. I seriously doubt any students are really living out of their cars.
I bet everyone at Marshall wishes they paid 125.00 a semester. Marshall activies fee is 1250.00 a semester or 2500. a year. I know most college students are poor as can be. But if you can't find 250.00 a year then something is wrong.

Congatz on the positive vote you got yesterday. Maybe, just maybe ETSU will be the Southern Con team I actually root for when you get your footbll back.

The fee will be going up 125.00 dollars that increase will put in about the same range 1200.00 or so. which is inline with the other TBR schools and most peer universities.

Come to think of it, this is the same arguement I used to hear when people voiced displeasure about building new stadiums in their community for pro sports teams.

"We got people starvin' in this county, and they're talking about building playgrounds for millionaires!"
But what I can't understand is why this board doesn't understand that a journalist is going to look for both sides of the story, and therefore the people who are against football returning, for whatever reason, need to be quoted as well.

Why journalism irritates some people is beyond me.

I would like to say that, as an "artsy type" person, I have waited for the return of football just like everyone else. I'm extremely pleased to see all the changes that Dr. Noland is leading.

BTW...I received my education at ETSU as a clarinet player, served in the U.S. Navy as a woodwind player for 20 years, and now live abroad teaching instrumental music in Europe. I still love ETSU. I am eager to be home for the first kickoff!

The local media never looked at both sides of the story before, with limited exceptions, so why would they start now? To use them as examples of journalism when reporting on ETSU athletics, especially the ETSU football story the past ten years, is like using the national mainstream media as examples of journalism when reporting on political issues (both sides) in Washington these days.

Personal note to Goldfinger: Please, let's leave politics out of our ETSU sports discussions, as much as we can. I see you also threw in that old "trust but verify" in another thread. If there was more time in my life, and/or this was oriented more politically, I'd be more than happy to go toe-to-toe with you (and who knows, maybe we will one of these days at a tailgate event?), but I hope we can enjoy this time, and season, without dragging extraneous things into it. Just a congenial request. Thanks.

Coming from the guy who had no qualms telling us how brilliant Al Gore is.

66- I am a huge critic of the local media, but come on!

Why should WJHL not quote those who don't want football?

If you're for football, you should be thankful they did. Now you know what remaining obstacles are there to restore the sport, and frankly, from what is being reported by ETSU, I'm not sure there are that many.

That woman sipping expresso may complain, but I doubt her voice will have real reasonance.

The only thing, truthfully, that I see that could stop football from coming back is community apathy.

So apparently you're not in agreement with my congenial request? Sigh...
I don't remember applying the appellation of "brilliant" to Gore, but he *is* that.
Quoting ronnie while trying to slander Al Gore is like bringing a dull potato peeler to a machete fight. At best.
PITT I got no problem with them showing them once but hell they gave them a forum. They put zero, ZERO students on who had the majority opinion of bringing back the football program. At least interview a couple from the winning side. The SGA who reps the student body voted in a landslide to bring it back yet all they kept showing was the two young ladies who were worried about how they were gonna pay the rent while sipping on $10 coffees for pete's sake!
