Holy cow, 102-46 v So Miss. The box score is pretty amazing.

Marshall was .333 from the field, .333 from 3, and 13-33 from the foul line.

Marshall made 13 buckets and had 31 turn overs.

Southern miss shot 63% and out rebounded the Herd 30-16.

The wheels on the bus have fallen off in Huntington, time to put that bus up on blocks behind the mobile home and let the grass grow up around it.

Wow...hilarious. Marshall scored first bucket, then So. Miss went on a 47-4 run. That had to be intentional, there's no ******* way otherwise for that happen in Division I men's basketball. I can imagine it in high school girls b-ball. They must want Herrion gone.

HOW is that even possible?!? 04-jawdrop
Ohio had a big first half on Marshall, then played even in the second half. Ohio was up as much as 38 on Marshall.
You know how you hear about a player who has the skill set to be playing for a high major school but isn't because he- has poor grades, has a bad attitude, is a diva, doesn't work hard, is too emotional, get's in trouble with the law, is selfish, doesn't take responsibility and blames his teammates, etc. etc.?

Some times a coach will take a risk and recruit a player like that, Groce did it with Armon Bassett, for example, and as we saw with Ohio's run in March 2010, when he's not destroying the locker room with his horrible attitude or getting charged with assault for beating up bouncers, he can go out and drop 32 on Georgetown.

Well, Marshall thought it would be a good idea to have AN ENTIRE TEAM made up of these guys. And this is what you get. An absolute disaster of a team with the talent to make a run in the Tourney. It's a train wreck.

Ohio had a freshman Forward last year, Tyquan Goard, with tons of talent but rode the pines for "undisclosed reasons". He was in the dog house so bad that Groce didn't even take him to the MAC or NCAA Tournaments. And Ohio could have used him off the bench too. So of course, the kid transfers out. Guess where he went to- Marshall. They are a glutton for punishment.

Their football team is the same way. I know some people close to their football program, who have told me things that are hard to believe would go on at the D1 level.
Sadly for Marshall, they have become "program irrelevant" in both hoops and esp football since leaving the MAC. C-USA hasn't delivered larger home football crowds (the thought that C-USA teams would "travel" better than MAC schools was a "pipedream" but it hasn't helped that Marshall is not much of a winner anymore).

I'm not sure leaving the MAC is a big factor. I think it's systemic w/in Marshall.

They look at short term gains, and don't build a culture that facilitates long-term success.

But, while the symptoms are different, the same could be said for many MAC athletic departments.
Marshall is just a MAC team that moved to CUSA. Yea, they had success for a while when they had superstars like Moss and Pennington but when they graduated that was it, and they sunk back to the level of everyone else. Same thing that happens to other MAC teams after their good QB graduates or their coach leaves. Maybe a team gets lucky and gets 2 good QBs in a row. But that's about it.
I'd make a smart-aleck remark, but NIU Basketball.
Ohio lost by 58 to Kansas a couple years ago. That was a Ohio team. The next year they matured and reached the sweetsixteen.

Kansas is a little better than USM though.

Too bad they didn't follow up the 47-4 run with a 19-0 run to make the score 66-6.

Probably should work on the math skills before you deliver the punch line.

It said Marshall scored the first bucket of the game, and then the 47-4 run occurred.

I did assume the first bucket was a two pointer, concluding 2+4=6, and 47+19=66. But, I see the first Marshall basket was a 3, so it was 47-7.

Dam'n Johnny Mac, I had just took a swallow of pop when I read that remark. Had to stop to get a towel to clean off my computer.
