As expected, Dr. Watts (Dean of the School of Medicine).

Very good news for UAB

I'm happy with that. Dr. Watts came across as a very down to earth, nice person. Very unlike the former school of medicine dean. Hopefully he is die hard UAB and will fight for us like President Garrison did.
Dr. Watts sounds like a real science nerd... he's a perfect fit! I hope he stands for whatever is best for the university as a whole.

I wonder who the new dean of the SOM will be?
How long before they send Jack Bauer from Tuscaloosa to take this guy out?
Most of the goon squad of the BoT was on the search committee.
Jack Bauer would never stoop so low as to work for the BOT. Has television taught us nothing?

True true, Jack would save the new President from the guy Tuscaloosa sends to take him out.
Few things to keep in mind: Dr. Watts was Dr. Garrison's hire for the SOM, and he has an undergraduate degree from UAB (engineering) so the west side of campus shouldn't have to worry

Those two facts make me even happier with the choice.

Rumor is that the chairman of anesthesiology is the front runner

Good news for the medical school. He grew up in Birmingham and graduated from UAB before we had basketball. Has anyone ever seen him at a sporting event?

It's good news for all of UAB, not just the medical school. This is quite the opposite of the sky is falling

My post was less of statement and more of a question. As a longtime UAB fan I'm just a bit paranoid
Well, paranoia aside, I think that any person that ascends to that position will have to adopt a support of UAB athletics whether they were active in their support previously or not. I would also think that any person vetted for that job understands the importance of collegiate athletics, especially relative to university identity, student recruiting, student morale, booster donations, etc.
The fact that this new president is a UAB grad is, in my humble opinion, probably the most important fact and should bode well for the university at large.

Hopefully not the same one that died of the flu a few weeks ago, 'cuz if so I think we have a new frontrunner.
Call it a hunch, but I believe the Franco-Canadian Blazer fan would know the skinny on this.

OH SNAP!!! You did not just call him a Franco-Canadian. You are in for it now
Autocrats (like the BOT) are not famous for hiring or promoting strong subordinates who might pose problems for them to handle in the future. They are much more comfortable with "YES men", even when they are wrong. I hope their decision in this case is not an example of that outlook, but I remember the general tone of St John's letter on what should be UAB's "priorities". When will we know for sure? look towards the next several BOT meetings, particularly the ones @ UAB. .
