I remember the University Center being brand new and how excited us students were to have a student center
Yeah, this is gonna be interesting to be on campus in 2014... Trying to find food that is

I'm glad I'm graduating in May...

The price of progress I guess

I'm not saying they should not do this... It will be great for future students but 2014 won't be fun

I remember being called on the carpet after calling it the brand-new building a "student center" in Kaleidoscope. "It's not a student center, it's a University Center."

In the interim plan, some HUC dining facilities, such as Chick-fil-A, will relocate to a mobile food site. Additional mobile food sites, including Asian and/or Mexican cuisine options, will also open.
“It’s up to the students whether or not mobile sites will continue once we open our new student center. If students really like these options and support them, we will certainly consider keeping them,” said Sands.
In addition, a wing and quesadilla restaurant called WOW Café & Wingery will open up behind Snoozy’s College Bookstore, and UAB is looking into placing an additional branded venue in Lister Hill Library.
We have a transition plan in the works. Our goal in the transition is to put the functions that students needed in the HUC in close proximity, such as around residence halls and classroom buildings. I think students will be very happy with the interim accommodations,” said Sands.
Bring back the hideaway cafe

I'm thinking there will still be a lot more dining options than most of us had as students
Do they still have building #3 and the cafe on the 3rd floor?
"Mobile sites" work well at VCU as complements (actually, more than "complements") to the built-in restaurants. I'm sure they will linger around.

Yes, and no.

You mean the one option we had as students?

No, don't destroy it's legacy by bringing back something that will not match the legend it has become.

I remember when I was a business student, we would play Frogger trying to get across 10th avenue to eat at Chris's Hotdogs. I believe to this day the reason I don't mind Legion Field Hot dogs is because I ate every day at Chris's.
Is Ranelli's still in 5points? Tues/Thurs all you can eat...i missed the 2nd half of class many times for lunch there
I wasted a lot of time at the Hideaway.
In a few years it will be impossible to bring back the Hideaway Cafe. The Humanities Building is on a list of buildings to be replaced soon.

Still there.
What is the Hideaway Cafe?
It was in the center of the Humanities building. Concession stand fair. Chicken fingers, corn dogs, grilled cheese...

A real grease pit.

You say that like it's a bad thing... there was nothing better than a basket of fingers & fries between classes... it was great when you didn't have enough time to wait in line at Al's.
I typed that with affection.
Ah! The "good old days" of 1970 when we had the Spinning Wheel on the corner of 8th and 20th north, the original Sneaky Pete's on 8th, Tubb's Drugs in the Towne House for candy and chips, and Dr Hubert Harper's 30 cup coffee pot in his basement office in Tidwell Hall (a picture of it appeared in the first UAB Annual). Now one can eat at a new place in the UAB area almost every day for weeks, maybe months.
