Would you give us the skinny on your squad, Courtside?
I noticed College of Charleston offered Jarvis haywood, and he took a visit. Wonder what made him choose JU.

Here's the recruiting nation scouting report on haywood..

Strengths:
He's a versatile wing player with nice size for a potential mid-level player. When he's at his best, he's scoring the basketball and made strides in the secnod half of his high school career. He's a natural scoring threat and that's why picking the appropriate level is key for him. Likes the floaters and is comfortable going from different spots on the floor. Serviceable as a play maker off the dribble.
Weaknesses:
Must improve his ball handling to continue his ascension on the wing. Gives an honest try on defense. Deep jumper can improve.
Bottom Line:
He's a good college prospect with potential mid-level ability. He's going to make someone happy because he's got a player's DNA. Plus, he's an excellent student and first-rate competitor.

JU, not a ton of talent but decent, Powell's, McD playing well over last three games. ETSU backcourt (Jones, Rembert, Wilson, Mclain) is way better, JU has better depth in front court with Dawson and Fleming. ETSU needs to get out front early. Stop Glenn Powell and ETSU will win in a close one. Don't let JU slow the game and get to the line.

yes! stats
Jacksonville’s 5-2 conference record is shiny, but is partly an artifact of 5 games played at home in Jacksonville, and mostly against lower ranked ASun teams.

The record consists of 4 home wins and a 5th win against cross town rival UNF which is practically a home game. Both of their other road games were losses against FGCU and Stetson. That may bode well for ETSU which has the home court advantage here.

Of their 5 ASun wins, 3 were home games against bottom feeders Northern Kentucky, Lipscomb and Kennesaw State (in triple overtime). One was at crosstown rival UNF which is struggling this year with the loss of senior guard Jerron Granberry and a surprisingly reduced role for senior Andy Diaz, who had been the team’s best inside player.
However their win at home against a good Mercer team was stellar. And they took care of business against Lipscomb (albeit at home), while ETSU, playing on the road, did not.

Jacksonville is not the most talented team. But once again Cliff Warren has a scrappy bunch playing better than they should. They will fight you… for 3 overtimes if necessary.
As Courtside notes, ETSU will be tested inside. Jacksonville is not long, but has muscle in 6’6” 220 senior Glenn Powell, 6’6” 260 Utah transfer Javon Dawson and 6’6” 210 freshman and Memphis native Kordario Fleming. They will likely have an advantage on the boards.

Famous last words: “the visiting team (insert name) does not shoot well from the perimeter”. There is nothing like a visit to the Dome to cure 3 point shooting woes. Jacksonville shoots .308 on the season and has the 3rd fewest made 3’s in the ASun. However they are hitting at a higher percentage in conference with .346. ETSU meanwhile has been blistering the nets in conference play, hitting 3’s at a .417 rate, best in the ASun. Likely shooters are 6’6” JUCO transfer Dylan Fritsch (.323 hitting 2 per game) and Keith McDougald who has upped his scoring to 2 three’s per game in conference.

Two freshmen give the Dolphins a different look in 6’4” guard Jarvis Haywood (averaging 10.5 points and 4.2 rebounds) and 6’6” 210 forward, Kordario Fleming with 6.3 points and 5.0 rebounds.

The Bucs need a strong effort from their core (Lester Wilson, Jarvis Jones and Hunter Harris), and strong supporting contributions from folks like Petey, Walton, Mario and KGG. When these guys are clicking on the same night, as against FGCU, the Bucs are actually a pretty good team and fun to watch. But it’s been two steps forward and one step back with this young club.

Walton and KGG could benefit from the same advice – go with power and confidence. Don’t mess around trying to finesse it too much. KGG ought to watch some film of Kevin Tiggs, who was an inch or so and 40 pounds smaller, but still effectively took it to the rim time after time. The step backs and fall away shots will work much better AFTER you establish the drive. Don’t waste too much time on the dribble – don’t over pass it. Just take it to them and dare them to stop that big body.

Mario is the team in microcosm – just learning what works on the D1 level. Rashawn Rembert has played very efficiently on the conference level. He should be ready to take it up a notch and try for more – particularly in penetrating and taking it to the rim. Petey needs to give us the explosion.

Hunter and Walton can’t let themselves be muscled by Jacksonville’s strong inside players. We need more from them on the boards than we've been getting. And we need them to look for their shot against a team which is not long. We can't let them muscle us like they did Mercer. Against Mercer, they held the score way, way down (49-47); won the rebounding battle 31-29; and totally shut down Mercer's bigs (Coursey 6'10" - 0 points, 2 rebounds; Brown 6'10" - 4 points, 3 rebounds; Hallice 6'9" - 0 points, 1 rebound).

We’d best be ready for a tough physical game. But we should be able to hold the home court advantage.
Nice preview, swvabucsfan. You raise an interesting point about former players as models of certain skills. I wonder if the coaching staff every shows footage of Tiggs, Wadood, Pigram and some of other greats?

Did not realize that we have not won any games in a row until reading this. Hopeful we can start tonight. BTW, as bad as the ASun is, what does everyone think the regular season champion's league loss number will be? 5, 6, more??
Big improvement in ASun TV with the time clock and the score always visible. Good job ETSU Communications Department!
Good play so far,but need to stay out of foul trouble.

I agree. Now get it in HD and get a few more fans in the stands. Then we will be in business.
My grandma could have played better zone on that last play! A decent half. I hope we come out ready in the second half.
44-42 at half ETSU.We need to get the lead back past 10,and play completely in the second half.
5 Turnovers in the first half... then five in the first 4 minutes of the 2nd half. smh
And another 3!
