I started a new preview thread because the other one turned into a love fest regarding attendance and smack talk. Sorry if that offended anyone.

Fellas...I remember losing to EMU last year at UA on a last second shot by their PG Lampley. Their players acted like they had won the lottery, and rightfully so...I believe it secured a West title for them which hadn't been accomplished by EMU since the MAC went to 2 divisions. Anyhow, considering our recent blunders in football and basketball against EMU, I for one would like to return to normalcy and have a good old fashion beat down with our Broncos on top.

Two games really stick out from their non conference schedule in my mind.

1. They beat Purdue 47-44 in Ypsi. Purdue is a bad Big 10 team...but still....

2. They lost 59-57 to Oakland in Ypsi. They allowed Bader to go 5/13 from the 3 point line and score a total of 21 points.

EMU's leading scorer is Derek Thompson. He comes off the bench as their 6th man and has taken as many as 10 3's in a game. His low is 3 attempted. In short, he likes to shoot.

Their next two best players are Glen Bryant and Daylen Harrison (per scoring average). Both are transfers from Arkansas and Wyoming respectively.

Jaylen Ross is a frosh PG that has been handed the reigns. Nothing too great or horrible about his stats or performance. He is somewhat prone to turnovers since he has 46 in the 18 games he has played in. He averages almost 25 mins per game, however, he has been logging over 30 in recent weeks. His turnover ratio per minutes played is similar to Klein's. Ross did just drop 8 assists against Miami the other day.

Their two centers are slightly baffling. Riley was the much heralded 7 footer out of Detroit Country Day that ended up at Syracuse. He transferred when Murphy bolted for the EMU job. Probably just as well as he seems over matched in the MAC at times. Balkema is their backup center.

EMU lost Ray Lee to injury and James Still (Providence transfer) to a legal issue. Both were potential starters for them.

Beyond that, I expect EMU to control the tempo and run their zone like they have for the last two years. They are longer and more athletic than last year.

We win this game if we score in the 60's. It's a nailbiter if we struggle to shoot from the perimeter and end up in the 40's or 50's.

It's likely going to be an "ugly" basketball game in terms of slow play and fewer than normal points scored.

I think our Broncos come out with the hot hand and hit a few 3's in the first half. Shayne and Darius might not get a ton of points in this game, but they will be needed on the boards.

Final:

WMU-68
EMU-54
I'll take that result. You're not kidding about our recent blunders vs. EMU. I still have a bad taste in my mouth about Cubit's final game. You can't lose to EMU in Football at home.......PERIOD!!!!!!!!
EMU throws their zone against us. We have no idea how to handle it and lose to the Eagles 68-52.

In the end we still finish ahead of them and advance beyond the 1st round in Cleveland. Eastern loses to NIU in the 1st round.

Ken and Holy join the other EMU fan on their site to crow about their 3rd place finish in the West, and gloat about breaking 2000 fans for the Purdue game.

The EMU coach announces he is leaving the program to coach a donkey basketball team in Butte, Montana.
Having no idea how to handle a zone...and executing properly are two completely different things. Although I recognize your attempt at humor in the post.

When have we ever shown we can handle a zone? If you never play one how do you learn to execute against one?

We've been doing it pretty well all season...despite our 3 point shooting woes.

Any clue what our record is against teams playing a zone? Or are you just basing it off what you've seen in past years and claiming it as fact?

This year? I don't think we've played against a team that ran a zone all game. CMU, EMU, and BG will though.

We are 11-2 against BGSU since Hawkins took over. How many of those games did they play zone?
You squeel about attacking a zone. Beyond going 0-3 last year against BGSU and EMU combined...there isn't much evidence supporting your idea.

They played one last year and ran us out of our own gym by 30.

Those were the only teams we played that ran a full time zone...........................and we went 0-3 against them. Following me?

That's all you got? 3 games in an underachieving season?

You want to ignore the 11-2 record against BGSU that employed a zone the vast majority of those contests?
You do grasp the term, "pattern" don't you.

Three full time zones, three losses.

Nahhh, just a coincidence.

Yeah...a pattern of underachievement by the entire team last year.

You conveniently want to ignore the previous 8 or so seasons...but that's fine....whatever fits your agenda.
Actually I think it would be very interesting to have someone run zone for extended minutes against the current team.

This is not last years team.

When has a Hawk coached team been good against a zone? We've shown on several occasions that we can't even execute one, that being the case we probably light up a zone in practice.
11-2 against BGSU in his tenure! What more do you want?

Note to EA- Orr played for Syracuse, he ran a zone, Dakich, never ran a zone.

Seriously man, you'd have to be blind not to see this. Whenever we play against a zone we pass against we pass it around the arch (much to slow), and when the clock runs down we throw up a prayer or Mikey would try to drive and shoot it.

I'm surprised ever team doesn't zone us, but like Hawk most coaches are creatures of habit.

5-2 against Orr!

Nonetheless...your mind is playing tricks on you.
30 point loss last year to BG and Orr's zone. We looked as helpless as any team I've ever seen. Wasn't much different against EMpews zone.
