In todays technology world, why or why would WMUBroncos.com have a press release about last nights WMU- NIU game and include a photo of WMU-Toledo? Get with it WMU Media dept

I think you should probably give them the benefit of the doubt on this one since the game ended at 11pm in Dekalb, IL (and subsequent 4 hour bus ride home)

I suppose maybe they could have made it a little less obvious though...
This is not a one game issue.
Akron, NC State, Duquesne, High Point and maybe every road game this year have had the photo from the wrong game. Usually it is a home game photo. IMO this is a poor reflection on WMU and just LAZY journalism.
Yep, happens all the time, reminds me of the old Western Herald days.
Photographers in most media relations departments don't travel to away games. Hence, the use of file photos.

I would bet the home town media would allow use of one of their photos or WMU could plan ahead and duplicate the NIU approach by blanking out everything around player

There are a dozen photographers at any given game. Most are freelance, and most will upload a picture to you for free as long as you credit them.

The "old Gazette" did send a photographer to away games.
Use a file photo from last years NIU game using two players that did not graduate?
Slow today, kickoff in a few hours.
