UTEP games come over 92.3 the fox in El Paso, it is an OLDIES station. My brother, my cousins and I came home after the game and we listened to the post-game on the way home. I just went to the store to buy some smokes, didn't change the station, and this song came on

This is the first time I've ever heard one of my songs from my youthful days on the oldies station.... Kind of an awkward feeling,
At least it was one of the bands that (hopefully) you hated.
I didn't care too much for the goo goo dolls, but when we were in high school we'd go to Juarez on the weekends and one of the bars we'd go to (Freds) would always play this song, so it was kind of weird when I heard it on the oldies station. I actually looked up the song when I got home from the store just to make sure it wasn't a remake of an older song.
It's just a part of getting older, partner. I still hate that the local classic rock station has Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Rage in their rotation, but what can you do.
Oldies how? Classic rock? Our classic rock (70's) station is starting in STP, Metallica and Guns 'N' Roses.
what is life coming to? When do we collect social security? I forget at this old age
I think "classic rock" should be a defined set of songs, not a rolling period of time. It's not like "classical music" (Beethoven, Mozart, etc.) ever admits new music... "classic rock" shouldn't either. "Oldies" should be the same way, i.e. nothing newer than the Beach Boys. The Beastie Boys may be old, but they're not "oldies."

This just seems obvious to me. One DJ playing Goo Goo Dolls doesn't change anything.
get off my lawn!!!!!
The original "classic rock" was songs from the 70's being played in the mid to late 80's.

So I guess a song becomes "classic" after about 15 years.
That is funny randaddy! The Fox played played U2's Mysterious Ways earlier this week and I instantly starting venting on Facebook. Hell, my favorite Public Ememy album is now 22 years old. Double hell, The Phantom Menace is almost 14 years old. Time stops for no man.

I'd love to hear that station. Do they broadcast online?
Ugh my AARP card comes in 15 months.

The Goo Goo Dolls aren't bad - at least their early stuff. And Iris is a pretty cool song too, even if it is a bit of a ripoff from Name. There is a Rice connection sort of to that band. Their original drummer (I think he was with them for Name) was let go by the main two guys and they ended up replacing him with the brother of a Rice alum, who announced baseball games on the campus radio station for a few years.

All three guys are big baseball fans and when Minute Maid Park first opened, I was supposed to help give a tour of the park (as it was being built) to the band one morning after one of their concerts. But the main two guys were too blasted to go on the tour, so it was just the drummer. He was a pretty cool guy - probably too laid back to be in a band.
All I know is that someone once told me that you lose three things as you get older. The first is your memory. I don't recall the other two.

Ha, ha, ha, welcome to the club you old coots!!! I love it. Now, you know how it feels to get old.

And. Getting a Social Security check every month is not a bad thing believe me. It's all free money where I don't have to put up with any fuss from a supervisor.

As for those 22/24 year olds. Last month my wife and I went to MTSU country, Nashville. While walking in the lush garden of the Gaylord there were two little old ladies that were smiling and giving me the eye and let me tell you that was embarrassing and depressing. It used to be I'd get the eye from the really younger set, now, the old ladies think I'm Ricardo Montalban...and he's dead.03-hissyfit03-hissyfit03-lmfao

The other day mrs oldtiger said that all of her early adult "hunks" were now doing ads for reverse mortgages.

It's depressing when oldies stations have now passed by the late 50s music which is when I first started paying attention. I guess I'm too old for even the oldies stations.
When freaking Sheryl Crowe covers a Guns N Roses song you know you are getting old. Geesh.........
A couple of years ago, I'm driving down the road with my 12 year old. She throws a Hannah Montana CD in, and it's the usual, vapid teenyboppper crap. Then a song comes on that I know. My daughter is shocked and appalled that I knew the words.
